Paint total crap on the Maverick

Hi this is Ford Motor Company! Please reply with your contact info and your VIN so that we may help you find ways to paint total crap on your Maverick!

Seriously though, I have an alto blue Mav and I actually had a good experience with the paint. I brushed against a parking pillar a couple of weeks ago and the scratches buffed right out. From what I was seeing in the forums I expected to see bare metal when I got out of my vehicle. Guess I was extremely lucky.

I am old enough to remember back in the 60's when the best advice was do not buy a car made on Monday morning or Friday afternoon. Maybe the new version of that is do not buy a Ford painted on Monday morning or Friday afternoon. :ROFLMAO:

I have had my Maverick 10 months as of today (I picked it up 12/13/2021).

Over those 10 months and 5600+ miles (including a 12 day, 7 state, 2804 mile vacation) I have had no issues what-so-ever regarding the paint on my Maverick.

I seems that those who have issues have either had rocks or glass impacts.

Lesson seems to be to avoid those.

My Area 51 XLT got rock chips in weird places but there were many in the 15k miles I drove it
Since my current one is the best color I decided to protect it the best I can
Full frontal PPF (in progress pics below)
It’s not for everyone but I like to keep my stuff looking extra nice

PPF isn't tat stuff pricey? Not sure how well ceramic protects from rocks if at all but I used for over 19 years Klasse an acrylic coating which sure seemed to keep stone chips from past cars and also used it on Gelcoated kayaks for protection from scraping against rocks. I think I will ceramic coat then Klasse front of Mav if I ever get one.

I have a CG Maverick and Area51 BS. Both a year old and no chips anywhere. Knock on wood. Not a lot of loose rocks or gravel on roads in my area.

Some minor scratches from mesquite thorns: no chips. Think the waiting in the hot Mexican sun and being slowly entombed in fine dust for many months before EPA release. Mine was built within 3 months from order but sat waiting for another 3 months. The paint had much time to cure and hardened.

I'm not so sure this is just a Maverick or Ford problem. I have a Kia Sportage that has less thank 14K miles and you wouldn't believe the paint chips on the hood and doors. My wife's Grand Cherokee that the lease ended on last month also had more chips than I'm used to seeing on our vehicles. I take really good care of our cars with frequent washing and waxing. I think it's actually due to the manufacturers having to switch from using solvent based paint to water based paints for environmental reasons. Now, I still think that some manufacturers are better than others with paint durability but overall I think automotive paint is much less durable now than it has been in the past.

I have a carbonized gray Mav and have 1 or 2 tiny chips but hardly noticeable. I also professionally install ceramic coatings and will tell you that they will absolutely help to keep your vehicle looking new for a very long time. That being said there are limitations. Coatings are not a super shield that is bullet proof. Like some have said, they will definitely not prevent rock chips. Nor will they prevent scratches, so you so need to properly wash the vehicle. But one thing that gets overlooked that is especially important on these trucks is the black plastic trim. Besides obviously the paint & wheels, etc, coating the plastic trim is a big must to keep that stuff from fading. That will be the first thing to fade and take away that brand new vehicle look.

Which is why my first purchase is ceramic coating.
I completly endorse this statement. Best protection investment on a vehicle I've ever made.

PPF is very pricey, but can be worth it to protect a long term vehicle that you want to look its best. Klasse is just a sealant, a good one, but just a sealant. A ceramic coating is not meant to prevent any rock chips, but would be much stronger than any sealant. Also, if you do ceramic coat your vehicle, you wouldn't want to put a wax or sealant on top of it unless specifically designed for use with coatings. You're just wasting your money spent on the coating as whatever you put on top will cover up the properties of the coating like hydrophobics, self cleaning, gloss, etc. Hope this helps 🤙

I put 303 protectant on the Mrs. Vols' 2018 Edge and it makes a difference. A thin coating on the door weatherstripping keeps it from crumbling and dry rotting.
