I have seen in the forum some talk of chipping on the front of the hood where a lot of abuse happens anyway due to bugs and stones. So, as an added measure I ordered a bug deflector to install immediately when I get the truck in a week or two. There are a few on the market already specifically for the Ford Maverick 2022; Ford, Realtruck, etc.

Too early in Maverick life cycle to determine if paint is the cause. Covered by 3yr/36Kmiles anyway, so a class action lawsuit means it is out of warranty or claims rejected due to external causes & not paint or application of paint. Bubbling, peeling, and oranging is another matter. Field reps will usually inspect "paint defects".

Do not know if the hood is aluminum.

I washed my truck again yesterday and was frankly surprised by the amount if chips I found on the front of the truck- not just on the leading edge of the hood, but the A pillar and around the headlights too. I know I can be picky, but I swear there's an adhesion issue at play here.
Has anyone had luck getting chipping paint address by a dealer?

I'm seeing chips on my hood. Right along the edge closest to the windshield. Started out with one and I blamed my husband for breaking ice off it. (Which he denied) LOL. Now I am seeing more and more each week and we haven't had any ice for over two months....any ideas on a solution? Was thinking about a touch up but really I have only had it since November, have less than four thousand miles on it. So still under warranty...

Hi GramsMav,
We are also finding chips along the very edge of the hood closest to the windshield. Like you my first reaction was to blame hubby when he scrapped ice from the windshield, but he just turns on the truck, warms up the windshield and uses window wash to clear the frost.
I have no explanation as to why the chips are now all along the edge of the hood. We have not noticed chips anywhere else, not the front of the hood, not the door edges.
Last week we took it to the dealer, they took photos and have forwarded the photo for warranty claim.

Vehicles that have aluminum panels have had paint problems for years. My Jeep Wrangler was almost all aluminum alloys and there were some issues with users having bubbling paint on the exterior door hinges. Because if even a speck of iron dust is on the aluminum before painting it can cause bubbling. Some alloys such as aluminum magnesium have higher resistance. If I remember there were problems getting warranty repairs because it was covered under corrosion coverage which still used the standard rust through wording. Since aluminum doesn't technically rust many claims were denied. Not sure if they finally resolved the issue.

This just happened today, doesn’t look like something scuffed it since there’s no scratch marks. Looks like part of the paint just flaked away? Or rock chip.. Zoomed in for detail, the paint looks really thin (this is the front bumper by the way).

I have owned many vehicles and this new one seems to be weak sauce, whatever the “environmentally friendly formula” is, it sucks.

Aluminum panels have been around for decades so nothing new here. My 50's MG has aluminum bonnet (hood) and boot lid (trunk) plus door skins and no issues with paint adherence.

It has to do with the environmentally friendly chemicals used in creating todays paint.

Looks to me like the edges of the dark area are scraped.

But, yeah, it was probably caused by weak sauce from the environmentally friendly chemicals

Last week took our Maverick to the dealer for photos to send to warranty claims. Today we were back to the dealership, they will do nothing. Only if in the future they get enough complaints from other Maverick owners that would they reconsider.
We are curious to know if you followed with your dealership about the paint chips.
I have seen on the Ford website complaints about thin paint and too much hardening in the paint formula that made the paint brittle and prone to chipping.
