My Ford App messaged me Saturday morning to let me know my Maverick had low tire pressure. I went outside and found my left rear tire had a screw in it. I took the truck to my local tire shop and they put a patch on it. Tire shop closes at Noon on Saturday. If not for the Ford App, I probably would have walked out after lunch to a flat tire and would have had to plug it myself.
✅. Keep on plugging!

That's a cool positive scenario, but the practical luddite in me immediately thought ... I've owned another car with TPMS for 10 years now. Overall experience...
- Had to pay extra to retrofit 2nd hand snow tires with them (negative)
- Had one die on me, that's annoying (negative)
- Alerts my wife that she needs her tires topped up once a year. Positive for safety, negative for me being asked to do it 🤣 (I've taught her to self serve, but still have to give a compressor refresher course occasionally)

Forward progress is great, but I agree with OP in some aspects it's Overkill. In many aspects the gains are not benefiting the consumer but costing them more in repairs and problem resolution.

Computer controlled, drive by wire vehicles will be more dependable, safer and easier to drive for everyone. It will also make it easier for aliens that hide behind the moon to take over like they did in the movie "Maximum Overdrive" I just hope the aliens will still use the AC/DC soundtrack. LOL.

Fewer wires with CANBUS. Even fewer wires with Ethernet (Cybertruck). As a fellow old guy, I remember the old days without rose-tinted glasses. People turned into ground beef because of no crash standards, no seat belts, no airbags. Cars littering the roads with various breakdowns. Bias ply tires, tires without steel belts. Cars falling apart or converting to rust in two to five years on average. Having to adjust points and timing. Having to spray the carburetor when the car wouldn't start.

The old days sucked. I could go on about ulcers before we cured those. Guys dying from heart attacks at 45 because of no statins. Smoking being considered cool and hip. The list goes on endlessly. The old days sucked. And the future can't get here soon enough.
We had lead in our paint and gas, PCB's in our plastics, paraquat in our pot and ran through clouds of DDT when the mosquito guy came around. And we liked it that way! Young people these days!

I believe it…my son’s Nissan car had CEL on. His CVT tranny popping out of drive, surging while stopped. Plugged code reader in. Got code #. Got to Utube to figure a correction. Turns out his rear light had dirty contact. Cleaned it off, used contact cleaner, check all his plugs/receptacles, clean them too. Cleared the CEL. So far no more CEL, tranny doing good. Freaking rear light affects CANBUS circuit, gets the warning. But someone needs explain why rear lights throw such a ruckus in other area of car.

Some programmer’s mind needs tweaking?

And drank from a hose, ran with lollipops or ice cream bars in our hands, biked without helmets & kneepads, played outside until the streetlights came on without our parents being helicopter parents, wandered allll over town with little to no supervision ... that was da life!

I remember my first impression of leaving the Auckland NZ Airport in 2003. I had a job interview immediately, so it was get the rental car, get to the hotel and shower up and change (after 12 hours of flying). Got the rental car and immediately hit traffic and was so overwhelmed by how bad the air smelled (Didn't expect that becuase NZ was fancied a paradise, the prime motivation for my wife and I wanting to expatriate there). I learned that the bulk of the cars were Asian imports and didn't require emissions like the USA. Took me an hour to get to the hotel and I just couldn't believe how smelly the air was.. like inhaling gasoline.

I thought to myself... The USA used to smell like this everywhere in the 70s....

Who would have thought 2 recalls would be needed for the taillights to work correctly? Has anyone ever thought of running a wire from a fuse to a switch and then on to the taillights. I bet you wouldn’t have 1 recall on that system in a hundred years. But that just a thought from a 79 year old guy.
But what would you do without a Netflix app on your center screen?
lol!
Agree, the tech is too much for a mechanical driving tool !
Problem is people don’t want to drive , or take the full responsibility and skill of doing it correctly, they want everything catered to their a.d.d. whims of automatic everything . If they could have a chip implanted so they could just think about rolling a window down and not have to actually activate a switch , they probably would pay extra for that !
Sad but true.
