While dragging around a water heater tank is not the same as trying to do a recovery of another vehicle, I came across this informative video posted by another member. Using a hitch for anything other than towing can be very dangerous.

I hear you, @Dad.

I take it you are referring here to my more recent post, showing use dragging the old water heater out of the basement using the Mav: "Our First 'Tow,‘ Wherein We use It Like a Truck."

No worries, really with what we did, since we did NOT use the tow ball. The photos in that post don't show it well, but we actually used a double-hooked tow strap that hooked into the tow rings on either side of the ball hitch.

So it was pretty secure, at least in terms of anything flying off or snapping.
