The only good thing about our 24-year-old water heater crapping out this weekend is that today we got to go buy a new one and haul it home in our XLT.

We thought it would fit in the bed … and it did, just precisely barely.

It was heavy, and the box fit snuggly between front of bed and tailgate. So really did not need to strap it down … but couldn’t resist using our DIY bedrail tiedowns for the first time. So strap it we did, using a ratching strap with hooks on each end.

And — since the heater box was too high to fit under our trifold soft tonneau, we just folded the tonneau up, took it off, and tossed it in the back seat. (One feature we like about the trifold tonneau.)

So, that was our Maverick excitement for today.

Now, gotta go deal with hooking up the new water heater ….

Dang, I wished I'd seen this earlier. Here is a Waterworks #3 and it is a whole house heater that can fit in the passenger seat on you girlfriend's lap (I won't tell your wife). research it but I can say the heat is non-stop. I do not work for these people and have had one since the first year they've made 'em. No bigger than two shoe boxes

Are you talking about a water heater or an air heater?

If you put the back seats up the tonneau will rest across if you’d rather it not on an angle. Nice photos!

Another reason to love the Maverick. I have had trucks of all sizes and makes, but as I grow older, have no need for that 3/4 ton F250, so the Maverick is perfect for me. Continue to enjoy and the water heater is above my pay grade LOL.

I see water lines. Looks like a tankless type that we use on our off grid cabin home. Ours a very cheap and flame on whenever you turn the water on. It is essentially a car heater core in a propane grill. Works well though. However not something you want inside a house, much like a propane grill. This one does look significantly more sophisicated than ours though. Perhaps it electric.

Edit: its electric boogy woogy woogy! Also 240 volts @ 30-100 amps. So it uses some juice.

Thanks for the tip! Didn’t think of doing that, but will next time.

Yeah, I have a tankless water heater, but since I had to put it outdoors it still takes a bit of time for the hot water to reach the outlets. I suppose this is for another forum . . . Hot Water Club?

Yes this is an electric water heater and runs on a 220 line. It does take a minute of running water before the heat arrives but it is endless. I like a tank when you use up all 40 or 50 gallons. We save the cold water for the coffee or watering plants. This company also make point of service units that run on 110 and fit under each sink. Those have instant hot water. I live alone so the delay is no biggie.

My kitchen is 100 feet from the water heater (40 gallon tank which is pretty close to bath and laundry) so I put a cheap ($179) electric water heater (120 volts 12 Amp) under the kitchen sink to have instant hot water without waiting.

it's a 1.5 gallon tank in a vacuum walled container like a thermos so gets by with very low power draw. 1.5 gallons is a lot if you're not taking a bath.

Ha! Had we purchased a taller water heater, that would certainly have been us.

I installed a smart plug activated water recirculating pump for this issue and it works great.

I’m just impressed you got 24 years out of a water heater. I’m on my third in 28 years. Damn things are near disposable.
