Hi all,
I plan on buying a new 2023 Lariat when the order banks open up here in a couple of weeks. This will be my first ever new car. I've done about 9 months of research on the pros and cons and know the overall list fairly well by know. What I do not know is how to start the process of ordering when the orders open up, how do I pick the right dealer to take delivery with. And how do I use the fact that I can pay in cash to my advantage in getting one earlier if that is possible. Thanks for any advice given in advance.
Thanks,
Renea.

The only way cash will help you get it earlier is if you buy one off the lot.

Also I have seen some people on here say that dealers refused to sell them their order at MSRP because they wanted to pay cash. I would make sure you make it clear with the dealer beforehand that you plan on laying cash. I would also ask for a Buyers Order signed by you and the dealer.

I wouldn’t share upfront if I was paying cash. Selling them at MSRP, there isn’t a big profit for them. They make it off the financing so disclosing that when ordering won’t be of any benefit. Just my thoughts. As far as finding a dealership, definitely call around before August 2 and ask if they add stuff or mark them up. Get the buyers order with the total “out the door“ price.

It makes a huge difference if you bring the cash in a duffle bag vs a briefcase.

Sometimes Ford offers incentives for buying on credit. What people that want to pay cash often will do is finance the purchase and then pay off the loan shortly after the purchase. Just make sure you don't have an early pay-off penalty.

Search the forum for good/bad dealers in area. Confirm in advance and ADM, required adds (like tinting or wheel locks), and that they will sign a sales contract.

Always deal with the different parts separately. Establish a price, establish a trade value (if applicable, and likely later anyway but still), then establish financing. Dealers love to throw this stuff in a pot to try and move things around to their advantage. Don't let them get off one topics until the last one is closed.

Edit - remember you have ultimate power, you can walk. They need you more than you need them. Be fair and reasonable, but be firm. If they smell blood they will attack. Confidence is key.

There are many videos that say to not tell them you are paying cash until the last minute. It won't help you get it sooner. Some options might hold it up. You'll need to decide how important items are. Anything that can be added by dealer or after market should be skipped to avoid delays. I got a Lariat AWD Fx4 Luxury package. It took 8 months(Nov to June) but I wanted all the things I ordered.

NEVER disclose intention to pay in full until AFTER final sales price has been agreed upon and papers attesting to such signed by both parties. Once that has been accomplished and you're moved from the sales person's office to a finance person's office you can signal your intention.

In short, paying in full affords you as the buyer no advantage whatsoever regarding negotiation of the transaction. (Mandatory "I am not a lawyer" disclaimer.)

As for "getting one earlier," production and bulid at the factory is wholly controlled by Ford, not by a dealer. About all a dealer can do is to assign a particular order a priority of 10, which can (not necessarily will) affect the sequence by which Ford looks at orders submitted from only that dealer relative to any other orders from that same dealer (subject to the usual caveats of build constraints and/or dealer allocations).

Nine months of research and you don't have this sorted out yet? Is what it is I suppose. First, find a good dealer in your area, this forum has lots of info on that as previously mentioned. I agree with others that paying cash may not lend the advantage here one might expect. Do get a signed PO and have the dealer acknowledge they will honor the PO at time of delivery.

Then, be prepared to wait...and wait.... and wait..... 😕
