When making the hybrid vs eco-boost decision, Wisconsin residents can consider the $75/year added license fee for using hybrid technology. ICE-driven, non-hybrid vehicles using different technology that achieve similar mpg are not subject to the added license cost. Go figure! I don’t drive enough to offset the fee impact with less gas expenditures, but still thought other differences made my hybrid choice worth while.
They charge extra for driving a hybrid? What's the logic there?

Hello all , my first post and very happy to be here . I have been skulking around a bit and reading
a lot of posts , I have a 3/31 build date for my 2025 Lariat AWD hybrid , space white , BAP , tow pack , sun roof , slider , console vault and some other goodies . After lots of reading I'm beginning to wonder if I should have gone with the ecoboost and the 8 spd .

After lots of reading it seems the abundant mileage I was hoping to get is going to be a pipe dream , I
like the thought of trying something new "hybrid technology" but I'm leaving power on the table vs ecoboost
and I may only achieve 5-6 more miles per gallon with hybrid .

Currently I'm commuting to work 110 MI round trip in a 2023 F450 Lariat diesel dually (keeping) so no matter which maverick I get it will be a mileage improvement over the 17 I'm getting now . Can any
25' hybrid owners give me some feedback or advice whether I should keep this hybrid coming or maybe
opt for the ecoboost , I'm trying not to make the wrong decision . It seems from reading some of you really like your hybrid's and some do not any input much appreciated !
I have a early hybrid (will be 3 years on 3/9/25) if you are driving 110 miles a day, over 50mph, the hybrid won't get you great mpg. Under 50, in the 40's over 50, in the 30's. Not sure what the cost is for either drive train with AWD. If you do a lot of local driving, go hybrid.

Wait for the hybrid. We have about 70 mile round trip we take several times a week. Now that the weather is warming up and ghectruck is breaking in we are getting better mileage.

You mentioned "new" technology. The Maverick us based on the same chassis as the Escape. The Escspe has had a Hybrid AWD for years. We traded a Hybrid AWD Escape in on our Maverick.

We liked our Escape but love the Maverick more!

It's an easy decision for me. I've had both an EcoBoost (company truck) and Hybrid in 2022 and after a year sold the EcoBoost. I would never have a need to tow/trailer 2,000 lbs to have the EcoBoost. I hauled a 700 lb motorcycle on a 500 lb trailer with ease, so sold the EcoBoost the next week. From day one of ownership of the Hybrid it has averaged 40-42 mpg. The Hybrid has plenty of power when you put your foot into it. "Sport" mode is plenty of power to keep up with most anything on the road.

If I were buying new I'd defiantly order the Hybrid XLT AWD. I still think $40,000+ is too much for any Maverick.

I have a 2025 Hybrid XLT, my daily commute is around 50 miles in SoCal traffic. Half highway and half on the streets and highway is unpredictable, some days is stop and go and some days there's no traffic. I've had it for a month and half or so and it has 1700 miles on the clock. I am averaging 45mpgs. It seems like savings is not your goal with the truck because of the way you ordered it, maybe ecoboost will make more sense for you. For max savings I would go XL or basic XLT Hybrid.

Well I have a 2024 Hybrid XL and for the money I am not disappointed. Im showing 43 miles to the gal. right now. Mine is a lot of around town driving so I'm Ele. a lot of the time. I have just recently discovered the sport mode WOW now that is fun. But beware it will chew the gas up.

I would go with the 2.5 for the fuel efficiency. You already have the power covered with the dually. If you want power and gas savings.... Go EV... We have a Tesla and it is fast handles well, and is cheap to run. I hear the Stang EV is really nice if you want a ford. I would explore Cars not trucks If I were in your shoes.

I have the 25 hybrid XLT with AWD and 4k tow and I am averaging about 38 mpg right now, so right at EPA estimate. It's been steadily going up as I have broke the engine in and it's gets warmer (I'm right under 2k miles). I absolutely love this truck. I'm testing the towing capability this weekend, hope it does well. 🤞

I had a 2024 hybrid as a loaner for approximately two weeks. There was a considerable difference between that vehicle and my Eco boost as far as the response of this of the engine and the transmission. I am not concerned about the mileage so the eco-boost is definitely the right vehicle for me.
This is the type of answer I'm looking for , thank you !
I am concerned with mileage but its the " how much mileage and at what cost"
to the drivability . This will be my first hybrid , I have always driven strong vehicles engine
wise ...

Perhaps the "logic" could be based on lawmakers' belief that hybrids used electricity and there is no gas tax on electricity to provide state revenue, not fully understanding that the hybrid vehicle usually uses an engine that burns gas to generate electricity. But only those folks making the laws really know their true motives.

Any chance you can test-drive a hybrid and an Ecoboost? Maybe a Bronco Sport with the 4-cyl turbo if an Ecoboost Maverick isn't available?

I'm very happy with my hybrid and I'd buy another. It has ample power for merging on a highway or passing on a two lane road.

However I wouldn't say it makes beautiful music when I press the accelerator to the floor. It gets the job done but the person in the passenger seat always looks at me with considerable disapproval. Actually she does this even when I'm not driving, so that may be an unrelated problem. :D

When I drive with a light foot, which is most of the time, I like the turbine-like acceleration of the hybrid with its shiftless eCVT. And there's a "Sport mode" I can engage if I want a more responsive accelerator and fake shifts.
I have driven them both , should probably have driven the hybrid more "2024 FWD model" but found the hybrid to be ok . If the MPG was a solid 35-40 like some here are getting it would be
a win , win for me .

I have a 24 lariat instead of a 25 but I do have an 80 mile commute that is all highway and thought about the Ecoboost when I was getting ready to buy mine and the main deciding factor for me was the type of fuel. When you factor in running 87 octane at 35 mpg in the hybrid and 93 octane at 30 mpg in the Ecoboost it becomes a significant cost difference. Over the five months I've owned my hybrid I have also learned tips and tricks to maximize my mpg while highway driving and it makes a huge difference. The highway rating for my 24 lariat is only 33 mpg but I was getting 36 mpg from the start and when I understood how to pulse down hills I've gone up to 40 or more. Also, I work at a diesel pickup repair shop and drive big trucks on the regular and do not feel under powered in my hybrid.
Our lifetime average for FWD Hybrid is 45 mpg which includes portion highway commute.

They charge extra for driving a hybrid? What's the logic there?
Indiana also charges extra for driving hybrid. Fee is not mpg based. It's not logic, it's tax.
Indiana also charges yearly excise tax. And wheel tax in many areas.
