I can...if doing a lot of downhill.

I do try to keep it at 70 on the highway. Here in the Northeast speed limits generally top out at 65 anyway. I know some of the wide-open midwestern states you can go a lot faster.
Speed limit in Ohio is 70mph and I’ll usually do 78-80mph and if I did that in my AWD hybrid I’d get around 26mpg

I can’t get over 30mpg in my 2025 hybrid AWD if going over 70mph
Seriously Cal? Wow. I've logged several consecutive trips in the last few weeks with my MY24 Lariat EB AWD 4KTow w/ larger 245/60 R18 tires in Mexico where I'm getting 31 mpgs at 72mph. Odd, becuase I'd struggled staying above 29mpg for a few consecutive trips before that.

UPDATED: I can provide an easy explanation for the 29 to 31 differences. I was always very heavily loaded on the trips where I struggled to stay between 29-30mpg in Mexico... The 31+ mpg trips were very lightly loaded if at all, just my wife and I, not even the dogs. Now don't get me started within my tiny pueblo of Álamos where I struggle to get anything above 20mpg for several weeks at a time. (all hills, speed bumps, and many single lane streets/bridges)

USA trips are always above 30 easily. Granted, I am spending on the 91 octane fuel.

Maybe your truck just needs to be broken in and it will improve?

Im not going to call others liars but until I see some screenshot proof of trip computers with average speeds above 65mph and onboard efficiency showing 36mpg+ i just can’t believe it.

I’m fighting hard not running HVAC, light throttle, and taking city routes as much as possibly and my hand calculated mpg is just 30.4 over the first 1,300 miles. I have not gone on long highway trips yet with the longest being around 60 miles round trip going just over 70mph and I registered 28mpg.

I just did my first oil change with mobil1 full synthetic so I will see if that helps. Obviously it will improve with warmer temps but doubtful it will impact highway performance as that is 95% ICE only already.

And I’m loving my Maverick. I believe that MPG will increase and by summer I’ll be sitting more in the 32-33 range but that will still be well more than 10% off the epa ratings while trying my hardest to be efficient. If I just drove I bet I’d be around 30mpg by summer time and more then 20% off the mark.

I appreciate your honesty... I've had a few other threads where I was documenting some trips. Now, I will admit... I always use ECO and I do drive, well, mildly... and of course I'm generally driving with temperatures ranging from 60degF to 90degF (well 110+ in the summer, but we're not discussing that). I'm running all season pirelli tires, so those don't have the resistance of say an AT.

I do need to get into Forscan and change my wheel diameter so that my speed/mileage is closer to correct (I say closer, becuase the best I can do is fake 235/65 R17 29" which is as close as possible to the 245/60 R18 29.6" diameter I have now). If anything, I'm reading less mileage.

My mileage is definitely very weight and speed dependent. If I hammer at 75 to 80... it drops to 28mpg even lightly loaded. (though in Arizona I can usually stay above 30mpg at 75mph, Mexico, no way). I've had some 28mpg trips heavily loaded long trips.... Even had a full tank at 26mpg when pulling my semi-loaded 4x8 trailer all day. Sometimes, I think my reduced mileage in Mexico might just be poorly calibrated pumps, so I'm paying for more than I'm receiving... years ago, serveral times, I proved it with a 2L gas can that took 2.20L to fill to the 2L mark.

Hey, I'm just happy that I'm doing better highway mileage than my older CRV-EX AWD (26mpg) and Frontier XE 2wd (20mpg) vehicles and have power to boot. Gas is so outrageously priced here in Mexico (and Arizona too but a lesser extent)...

Here's a weird thing that happens with my truck... Everytime I get the oil changed (which has been 3 times now), the next tank full of gas drops.... I always wonder if the dealership going into the computer resets some of the learning? I know, I'm grasping at straws here, but it's always notable...

See the text of my original response:

my truck is not a hybrid... I just chimed in as I was surprised by the highway fuel economy documented by Cal. I do decent on highways.. horrible in my mountain pueblo...

I might add I’m talking just hybrid efficiency. I do not doubt the EB can pull those numbers on the highway it’s wonderfully efficient when at speed and not leaning into boost.

I'm a truck guy , a car is out of the question ... Like you , I will be using the Maverick
for a little bit of everything . I would be more than happy with 35 mpg's if I get that
it will be perfect and I understand where you are coming from .
Thank you , good post .
Another vote for a Prius or Corolla hybrid commuter. Or Hyundai etc.

You're keeping the big truck - why have a smaller one just for racking up commuting miles? Aim for 50-60 mpg instead of 35-40. Base models come with Adaptive Cruise Control, vs only the Lariat Mav. Saves more $. Cheaper tires. Probably cheaper insurance.

With the $ saved you can take more weekend trips, buy more toys, add-ons for the real truck, etc.

Hello all , my first post and very happy to be here . I have been skulking around a bit and reading
a lot of posts , I have a 3/31 build date for my 2025 Lariat AWD hybrid , space white , BAP , tow pack , sun roof , slider , console vault and some other goodies . After lots of reading I'm beginning to wonder if I should have gone with the ecoboost and the 8 spd .

After lots of reading it seems the abundant mileage I was hoping to get is going to be a pipe dream , I
like the thought of trying something new "hybrid technology" but I'm leaving power on the table vs ecoboost
and I may only achieve 5-6 more miles per gallon with hybrid .

Currently I'm commuting to work 110 MI round trip in a 2023 F450 Lariat diesel dually (keeping) so no matter which maverick I get it will be a mileage improvement over the 17 I'm getting now . Can any
25' hybrid owners give me some feedback or advice whether I should keep this hybrid coming or maybe
opt for the ecoboost , I'm trying not to make the wrong decision . It seems from reading some of you really like your hybrid's and some do not any input much appreciated !
I have a 2024 lariat hybrid and have been driving it for a year now. I averaged 34 miles a gallon on my highway trips. But realistically you are to have to make some adjustments. The Maverick is going to feel like you’re driving a Go-Cart compared the beast you are currently driving. That being said the Maverick is the perfect choice for daily commute.

What's not to like with the hybrid. Sounds like the biggest issue has been the battery in the cold climate and when that issue is addressed, they are basically trouble free. I've had mine for 13 months with zero issues. Yes the cold weather has taken its toll with the mileage, but still a lot better than anything else I've driven.

I have a 24 lariat instead of a 25 but I do have an 80 mile commute that is all highway and thought about the Ecoboost when I was getting ready to buy mine and the main deciding factor for me was the type of fuel. When you factor in running 87 octane at 35 mpg in the hybrid and 93 octane at 30 mpg in the Ecoboost it becomes a significant cost difference. Over the five months I've owned my hybrid I have also learned tips and tricks to maximize my mpg while highway driving and it makes a huge difference. The highway rating for my 24 lariat is only 33 mpg but I was getting 36 mpg from the start and when I understood how to pulse down hills I've gone up to 40 or more. Also, I work at a diesel pickup repair shop and drive big trucks on the regular and do not feel under powered in my hybrid.
Why on earth would u ever run 93 octane on in the 2L when it runs on the cheapest gas just fine. 93 is at least 60 cents more a gallon...total waste of money for maybe 1 mile more per gallon if that. My 24 awd 4k gets 29 on hwy with the cheapest gas and has more than enough power

When I went from 87 octane to 91 octane, I get 3 more miles per gallon with my Eco in town.

Because it is mapped to a 91 octane and if you fill with 87 it retards timing and detunes your engine via anti-knock sensors.

Your 2.0EB only pulls about 225hp on 87.

Reading between the lines it's not even a sustained 80 mph. Just a "top speed" of 80 mph. It doesn't say for how long.

Up until 2007, the EPA just did city the city cycle and highway cycles, but they were unrealistic and they decided to “fix” the test by adding 3 additional cycles; high speed/acceleration, cold weather and hot weather. Post 2006, the EPA city ratings decreased by 11% and the highway ratings decreased by 22%.

The high speed cycle result is averaged with the 60 mph, low acceleration, old “highway” test to produce the post-2006 epa highway rating. The methodology is not perfect and it does not accurately reflect high-speed, interstate, cruise control, constant speed driving, but the number is a lot more realistic than a what it used to be.
