Curt adapter is confirmed to work. That was a myth started by a salesman on a podcast but not true as confirmed my multiple fonts who have done it. Maybe there is no Ford produced way to do the wiring but there is an aftermarket way.The problem with the Non Factory hitch is apparently there is no after market wiring adapter that works without causing issues, at least thats my understanding from post on this forum. Plus there much cheaper from the factory. I maybe wrong but i think the best bet from a production standpoint is the XLT trim and if you get the lux pkg it comes with the hitch which is not a constrained option where the plain hitch is a constraint. The XL trim and the hybrid do not have very planned production quantities. XLT is the sweet spot as I see it from Ford's production plan. This is all my understanding, it incorrect maybe others can chime in and correct. Good Luck with your plans!
That said, I'd still get the hitch from the factory. If spending the money on XLT is option, why not Ecoboost XL? It'll get built, add the factory hitch, and move on.
Otherwise XLT with luxury package is the way to go. A hybrid XL is possible but a big maybe.
