What it does do is pull from it for the traction motor while the engine is running. It heats via exhaust gasses. This contraption

It must need much colder than to make a difference. That's exactly what I was expecting to warm it up some before I left.

As my logs show - 5 min warmup, 5 min driving - HVB temp did not go above ambient. And this was cold enough engine running the entire time.
Finally on the highway it did get warm enough that recharge was going to it.

Question - as a new 2025 hybrid AWD owner, I'm curious when these vehicles will see optimal gas mileage. The first 3 days I had the vehicle, I was getting 25 to 26mpg in single digit and teens temp. The temps have since gone up to the 20's, 30's and yesterday 43. I'm getting around 37 - 42mpg now regularly (hit 44 for a brief instant).

What is the temp range that is optimal for the engine and it no longer takes a mph hit (factoring in winter gas blend also)? Wondering if I'll ever see those crazy mpg's in 50's like the FWD hybrids.
I have had the same problem with mpg and hybrid. I watched, read all the replies and tested the problem for a couple of days now. I got in, turned it on, heated up the cabin, turned it off, drove out with no heater on at all, mpg's got to 50+, then started dropping, on an interstate, 65 mph, but I drove at 58. Little or no traffic. The mpg dropped slowly to 37 or so and continued there until I reached home again, all about a 9 mile trip the first time, 21 miles next day and got about 38+ with no heat. And it was approx. 29 degrees outside.

OMG guys, 30,722 on the clock over 24 months. So I'm darn sure if you add it all up, I'm getting EXACTLY the EPA rating. I'll bet anything that your long term MPG will be damn near exactly the EPA rating.

Nice! My all time high is still 44mpg. I’ll start laying off the heater.
As I always joked with my wife when driving in the Prius V in cold weather until I knew the engine was warmed up (which is hard, the Prius V has no temperature gauge!), "it's a hybrid, you're meant to suffer" lol. She'd find it mildly amusing ... very very mildly :)

Ideal outdoor temperature is the warmest YOU can stand without using air conditioning. To a point.

The battery loves 80's and 90's. But 100's, not so much.

So If YOU can tolerate it with no air-conditioning, MPG will peak when ambients are in the 90's. Since I can't, my best days are in the 80's.

A small sample size, yes, but today started at 28 degrees and ended around 42 degrees. This is not my normal drive into the office (twice a week) because my son is sick and went to the grandparents (a bit out of but mostly on the way) but this is mostly my commute 2 days week.

The other commutes are 3-5 miles in length in a suburb of in Northwest Columbus, OH so I don't expect it to perform AS well.

I was panning the initial MPGs of my AWD Hybrid when I first picked it up but today was for the most part above freezing here in Central Ohio and I decided to NO HVAC (heated seats and wheel only) to see how the MavBrid performed.

This was entirely city driving with no roads exceeding 45mph. 3 trips totaling 26 miles.

1. 6 miles total / 4.1 miles electric / 50.5 mpg
2. 10 miles total / 4.9 miles electric / 37.3 mpg
3. 10 miles total / 5.6 miles electric / 47.6 mpg

Total (average) 26 miles / 14.6 miles electric / 44.3 mpg!!!

So 56% of miles driven were electric, that is impressive! Also, it is embarrassing but let me circle back to that.

Because in my experience so far the Ford computer is roughly 10% (and this is not just THIS maverick) optimistic, let's take 10% off the top of that 44.3 and what we're left with is....

39.9 MPG CITY

Makes me happy for the prospects going forward. While I would love to have had the HVAC running and get those numbers today - grabbing that number after not touching 30 (or even being close) was something I needed to see today.

Also - 33psi all around on these total ass 19" wheels and tires.

Mostly heater operation. The electric A/C - not very much.
I don't know, the times when I have had to use A/C for a week or so my mpg's saw a s substantial drop similar to the drop in the cold weather.

In my EV Bolt:

Heater took ~ 6000 watts
Air Cond took - 1000 watts

I think A LOT has to do with the temperature delta too.

Trying to bring 90 degree outside air down to 70 takes less energy than bringing 0 degree air up to 70.

Mavbrid, that nickname is gonna stick I bet :’P
So in warmer weather you guys are going to get a 10-15% increase in mpg’s ?
In a truck ! Not bad at all.
I must say these Mavbrids and the gas addict Mavgassers are looking to be a real game changer.
It’s gonna be fun watching all the other manufacturers try and get into this level of mini truck not crossover vehicles.

The Mavericks, all the flavors seem to me to be a new category of vehicles.

Watch for the new Subaru Baja
It’s trying to be more like the Mav’s in looks at least.

I've thought about pulling the trigger a bunch but don't want to pay extra for it.
