Am i the only one who strips these oil pan shield bolts.would it help to get metal fasteners that the bolts screw in to and trash the plastic ones?

🤔 Nope
I am sorry, I do not have the link anymore either Amazon or Ebay.
I bought a bag of metal spring nuts. plastic push nuts and screws, along with a bag of oil and drain plug washers. Just to have on hand.

I've done two oil changes so far on my EcoBoost didn't have any issues either time. I used a torx bit adapter in my battery operated drill on low setting.

I would agree that the little screw inserts are the weak point but so far they work.

Unless yours are different..
They are "Metal" not Plastic...

I forgot one, on my last oil change...
They are of a "Cheap" design..
I have seen these before, (I did post on these in another thread, sometime ago.)
This setup was/is used for attaching interior trim panels... (Rangers).
I will "Hand-tighten" the screw/bolts before snugging them tight. With any kind of wrench.. ;)

You would have to find, a "nut" that will stay retained in the sheet metal.
Of the underframe...

I used 6mm (I think) threaded bolts on my wife’s focus, same clip. Threads instead of sheet metal. She never ripped the cover off after that. Same bolt as Mercedes uses for the panel.

That Assortment set from Amazon might work.

Though....
A = would work, IF it snaps into the existing hole size...
B = will ONLY work, IF the hole is near the "edge" of the sheet metal.
Meaning, it has to "Clip" over the sheet metal.. Than the screws passes though..

No only some of the bolt retainers are, only spot off hand I can think there are plastic nut retainers is for the center high mounted rear brake light.

Yes you are right they only work with the plastic clips. They do fit those very tight. Thanks for the clarification.

I haven't had to disassemble too vehicles.
The last one was my 2nd Ranger. I did some trim and door work.
I remember seeing...
Plastic clips, plastic bolts, plastic plugs (these have a large head and a barb for the screw section).
Most of the clips metal/plastic were used on oversized holes in the sheet metal.
Easier to have a large hole and then the alignment came ŵhen screwing into the clip...
