Not speaking for The Real Maverick, but his point is that this is really a question that everyone will have a very different opinion on. With no real solution. It's a great talking point, but having been on several Car forums over the last decade, this question always never really gets answered.

Anything is better than K&N. OEM is usually the best and least expensive.

There are teardown videos on youtube showing the motorcraft filter's construction. They are pretty solid and inexpensive too. No reason not to use them. If you change your oil and filter every 5k it honestly doesn't matter much what you use. Fresh oil and filter every 5k is more important than choosing the absolute best of the best.
