I plan on changing my hybrid oil with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic every 7500 miles. That should be around 5000 engine miles.
So you do by use the oil life monitor?

Oh good, looks like all my vehicles I own require 5W-30, makes it simple for keeping any on hand.

2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan I4 2.0L-NA: 5W-30
1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass w/ 'LSx' swap V8 5.3L-NA: 5W-30
2022 Ford Maverick I4 2.0L-T: 5W-30

Only my wife's 2020 Jeep Renegade I4 1.3L-T requires anything different at 0W-30.

I have 2017 Kia ll hybrid & I use Mobil 1 0W-20W as suggested in manual.
Yes, same in my Lexus hybrid. We do Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20. Recently switched to the high mileage version.

I would believe it is set by mileage at this price point BUT, The less I drive, the more frequently I change my oil.
FYI, If you change you own oil, Costco has their Kirkland brand of fully synthetic (Online only). Last sale I got 2-5 quart jugs for less than $30 after tax.
Seconding this! It's also SN Plus rated and designed to lower pre-ignition which means its perfect for turbo charged engines. It's actually the best oil I've used in my Outback. I've tried Royal Purple, Motul, and Mobil 1. They all burned off, but I don't burn a drop with this stuff at @ 170K!

I understand severe service will change things, but this is what Escape does ...
- oil monitor will require a change every 10,000 miles or 12 months, which ever comes first. .
- the hybrid interval will be 10,000 engine miles, so lots of EV can stretch it to 15-16K miles.

My dealer does a free oil change at 5K miles. My second oil change was 15, 600 miles later, as required by the oil monitor. I do used oil analysis. No issues seen on this change.
TBN looks low, do you have new oil baselines that you compare against?

TBN was 2.1, and that's not low for used oil. My baseline is the C-Max, which includes un-used oil data. Water in the oil was interesting.

All my end-of-life TBN are in this range, the first at 0.5. Note the last oil change was sampled twice because it took 2 years to get close to 10K change point. Leaving oil in for 24 months had no negative effect, the last data looks a lot like the rest of the samples.

My concern would be that your AN would outpace your TBN when you get below around 3.5 typically. I always thought that once TBN hits about 50% of the original new oil value that it is in a cautionary limit with 20%-40% being a critical limit.

I'm a lube guy, so I tend to geek out about this kind of stuff a little bit.

Well, I haven't posted the oil analysis from another person's 250K mile C-Max, because he didn't spring for TBN. He does use extended drain intervals, so this was really old oil, and I would really like to know the TBN.

I can't find it on their site, but Blackstone once posted a chart of TBN vs miles on the oil. The general trend was an exponential decline that leveled off around 2.0. The message was the huge amount of noise around the trendline. It was 2 +/- 1.5 at high mileage. I took it as a sign that a lot of things can screw up oil pH, but that anything near 2 was just fine.

Now, if we were talking aircraft engines, I might share your view. One must consider the hazard when discussing reliability.

Oh, I completely agree. Consequence of failure is (should be at least) the root of reliability. This is our measure of when/if we perform different types of maintenance, or if oil analysis is even warranted.

On a side note, TBN and AN are not the same thing as PH. AN is the concentration of acid in the oil and TBN is value given for how much more acid concentration the oil can still mitigate.

There is now a post of the Maverick Owners Manual, so look for that.
Normal use, when to expect “OIL CHANGE REQUIRED” message is 7,500 and synthetic blend
2.0 uses 5.5 quarts, the 2.5 uses 5.7
Me, going full synthetic and a Mobil 1 filter, not a Motorcraft oil filter.

I won't be running synthetic in this thing. It's not a race car.

Depends on how long you want the vehicle to last. Better lubrication means longer life. Just sold my 21 year old, 263,000 mile Subaru that always had synthetic.

TBN and AN are not the same thing as PH
But is not pH the thing they're trying to control? I see TBN and AN as indicators of remaining pH control system capacity.

As someone how got a Volvo to 330K miles with no engine work, doing 10K oil changes with synthetic oil 20 years ago, I trust the oil monitor Ford puts in these cars, and I trust that the synth-blend is just fine. That's why I test the used oil. That said, the Gen4 hybrid oil monitor only counts engine run hours, not total vehicle miles. My first change on the monitor was at 16,500 road miles, but only ~10K engine miles. That's about 40% EV.

My used oil analysis is posted; anyone see a rational reason to change oil sooner than the car asks?

Having owned 5 turbo charged BMW’s since 2007 they all use full synthetic oil and as well as Audi, Mercedes and Porsche. For the little extra cost you get much more protection and longer life. BMW uses 0-30W but I think they switched to that to get better gas mileage. Most of the German brands if not all are at 10,000 miles or 1 year for oil changes. Basically they all use turbocharged engines. Never had a hybrid and I won’t be putting a lot of miles on it but I’ll probably get full synthetic at the first oil change.
Every month someone starts a thread on the BMW site about when to change the oil and every time a few people want to do like the 60’s thru 90’s with every 3,000 miles. Engine tolerances are so much better now that the old standards really don’t apply. If you tow maybe consider more often but otherwise forget about it.
