Well that’s kind of the problem. It screams ford truck, 1982.
Nah it was still a popular options into the 2000's. Either way I still love it the option.
So honest question for you, I'm just genuinly curious and I'm not being a jerk. If the Maverick had the hidden capacitive type keypad like Ford uses on the Edge and other vehicles would you like that?

I didnt even know they redid the keypads. Looked up the edge and yea, that looks a million times better. I actually wish i didnt see that now, because it makes the one on my 23 Mav look even worse to me now lol. That at least looks modern, the dollar store buttons they use on the mav remind me of those $5 fake car alarms from the 90s (the boxes with numbers that didnt actually do anything and had a flashing light).

Yeah Ford has been using that hidden capacitive type keypad on a few Ford & Lincoln models for several years now. When they came out with that style I thought that would be end of the hard button keypad but since the Maverick got the hard buttons obviously that wasn't the end of those. My best guess is that it must be a large increase in cost for capacitive style or maybe it even has something to do with the chip shortage. We'll probably never know.

Tell me more about the blank key door unlock.. was going to get the keypad for my XL with my points but the service guy says 400$ more to program it with computers to match the Maverick. So that is not happening. With the Prius a micro key can be removed from the key fob to keep the car running or not but locked. Wish Ford Key fob did that as easily.
When I need remote unlock the most cell service generally poor or non existent, camping in West Texas.

I have played around with my securi-code pad a little, but in reality, I haven't really needed it yet. I've barely memorized the code...in fact, I forgot it now... :ROFLMAO:

For someone who does a lot of watersports, hunting, etc where you might want to keep your key in a safe dry spot, I can see the benefit, but for the most part, it is a feature I wouldn't miss.
My code is the zip code of my residence where I lived in 198* when I married my beloved. We can both remember it!

I am on the water at least 100 days a year - retirement is great. We have had the keypad on our Ford trucks since 2001 and it has always functioned perfectly. I am happy to leave the keys in the truck when I am on the water.

I remember when my buddy locked himself out of his car at the subway station with the engine on. It took an hour and a half for the locksmith to arrive. A keypad would have been very helpful.

Love the keypad!!! I understand that I am breaking some sort of security rules, but I will have had my Lariat one year on July 29th. I have not touched nor looked for a key fob after the first day. (y)Yes, it stays in the vehicle! (y) :)
I tried that with my Mustang, and it killed the battery in the key fob after about six months. I hope you have better luck.

I read somewhere that can be a problem. I presume that somewhere along the line the battery may get weak, so far, no problem. When it does, I will use the second fob I keep in the house and get a new battery for the first. They are not that costly and worth the convenience IMHO.

I sometimes wonder if Ford and other OEM's throw these scenarios out there just to get attention. Kinda like the AM radio thing. Surely they wouldn't be so stupid to get rid of something many of their customers use/like? Hmm.... 50/50 there. Stupidity of all kinds is so rampant these days, nothing surprises me.....

I say keep the system. It's uniquely Ford, and most seem to prefer it. Personally, it's all I ever use. Fob went into the glovebox on day one, has never been out. Surely there are less divisive ways to save $5.
100% agree, i personally view the keypad as a competitive advantage for Ford and thats not the kind of thing smart companies just throw away... there are almost certainly many different, maybe better ways to save $5.00 per car or truck. identifying them is one of the few legitimate reasons the 'suits' get paid so much , but... i have personally seen Ford implement changes to pieces/parts or production processes that may cost hundreds of thousands or more of $$ up front but that will save several orders of magnitude of $$ going forward(the suits hope). think abut it, savings of $5.00 per vehicle produced add up quick when you manufacture and sell 2+ million vehicles a year. add to that how much more profit potential there is in 'up-selling' the after market OEM stick on wireless keypad and add the the fact that i've just removed another production constraint(hey amigo does this one get the door with the keypad hole or not?, same for the stamping plant that sends said doors to the assembly plant. the math just works for the 'bean counters' but. i dont think it should be their call. i still think its a mistake on Ford's part. take care of your customers Ford, and the rest will take care of itself.

They also removed the feature from the 2023 Edge so it makes me think the feature is being discontinued and they're just slowly phasing it out the whole the Ford & Lincoln lineup. My wife has a 2022 Edge with the keypad and on that car it's the capacitive version which does look cool. But I don't mind the hard keys on the Maverick either. https://fordauthority.com/2022/08/2023-ford-edge-ditches-securicode-keyless-entry-keypad/

I've had it on Ford's that I've owned going back to my 1991 Thunderbird and although I don't use it as much now as I did in the 90's I still like having it & still find it useful.
y'all may be right, hard to tell at this point if this will be like the cancelled decision on dropping AM radios. every once in a while 'we the people' can win. not often enough, but often enough to keep trying my friends!!

I've been at the beach the past few days with the rental F-150. I don't know its code and the lack of being able to use it has been a point of frustration as we have to keep track of the key while on the beach. Just one more thing to account for when it could simply live in the truck..

I stand by my position: it's $50 add-on for a $25,000 truck. There are other ways to save money that doesn't remove a uniquely Ford feature.

Also, keep in mind that if you leave your key in the vehicle and lock it with the keypad, the vehicle ignores that key completely unless you unlock the car with the code or the other key.
i like the info about the keypad ignoring the key fob if the vehicle was locked the last time with the key pad, i cant wait to check this out.

Not true.
I've tested this on my 2022 Lariat hybrid. Left the window down and the Keyfob inside the truck. Got out of the truck and locked it with the keypad. After five to 10 minutes, I went back and crawled through the window and was able to push to start the truck and drive off without ever unlocking the doors or touching the keyfob.

The reason I tested this was because I heard the keyfob was NOT supposed to work when left inside and the truck locked with the keypad.

Still need to order one of those Faraday pouches from Amazon.

It also would've worked with the windows up, if you had broken a window or used a device to reach in and hit the unlock button.

Amazing the amount of wrong answers here. 🤷‍♀️

Do not leave a fob inside any vehicle unless you want it easily stolen. When it takes a year or more to get a new truck and you will likely get dropped for a large comprehensive claim, it's not a good risk to take.
