I missed the ordering window but have been diligently checking the inventory pages for the slim chance of one available. Today I found one about 30 miles away. I go down to the dealer to find out the are charging 10k over MSRP for a Lariat Hybrid w/Lux. For those lucky few who have gotten one without ordering, did you see this kind of markup?

I would say they have generally been between $2,500 and $7,500. You will always have these greedy dealers. I don't run or own a dealership, but I would think when you get up above 5K you are getting to greedy territory.

I definitely would have bought on the spot if it were 5-6k, but I just thought that was insane. Apparently they didn't mind because before I walked out they had someone on the phone to send a deposit.

The fact you will pay 5-6 over feeds the fire. Expand your search and have a dealer ship it. You will eventually find one for MSRP (or near it) plus shipping.

The sudden spike in gas prices will also drive up the price of all hybrid and electric vehicles. The unavailability of the Maverick combined with that is a double whammy. In general, people are bad a math. They will spend $10k more on a car to save $2000 on gas. Yes, it feels better at the pump to pay less, but paying an insane markup deletes all the "savings" at the pump and puts one seriously upside down in the event the vehicle is totaled, stolen, etc. if there is a lien on it. Paying MSRP is bad enough these days, no reason to compound the problem.

Don't believe people saying they bought for MSRP. We just had someone here who claimed to have paid a couple of thousand over MSRP for a barely used model from Carvana but we found the listing and they had actually paid about $5,000 over MSRP. I really have a hard time believing that dealers are letting any of these go for MSRP considering people are willing to pay up to 10k over.

I paid MSRP about a month ago. I had one on order at a different dealer. Also note the fact that the dealer I bought mine from is in the shadow of Ford Corporate (Dearborn MI) so I am sure they feel as if they're watched more carefully than most. Dealer Ordered unit, AWD 2.0 Ecoboost. Many in the area are upcharing 5k-10k. Highest I saw was around 47k for a Lariat Eco.

Im from Michigan. Was this in the Troy Motor Mall? Dean Sellers Ford?
I saw that one and contacted them about it. Told them I have lots of cash to put down but not paying $10k or msrp. They called back late last night so I should probably call them back...

Anyways good luck! I am like you, in metro detroit calling all dealerships trying to find one.
I have a confirmed order from Nov 3rd, but no build date yet.

Id estimate the number of people who bought from inventory and did not pay a dealer markup is around 25% of those who post here. And 20 of that 25% are canadians lol
