Thanks for the answers. I've got an order in with the FX4 package included, but I'm going to look around if I don't get notice by January of a production date. Nice to know that an AWD model without the FX4 package is an option for me. I would still miss the A/T tires and trailer receiver. There are other options to get the trailer receiver but not the tires.
The Pirellis that come with the FX4 package are more highway oriented anyway, not great reviews on tirerack. You'd have to spring for the optional tire package with the Falken Wildpeaks to get anything off road oriented.

That's what I will do on other people's trail pretty much. On our driveway, simply for its preservation I go for minimum wheel spin. It's been bad enough after a storm that my comanche even needed multiple attempts. That's why it has a winch when it gets bad it goes up first, makes a path and can haul material down to fill ruts as needed. Last time the ruts got as deep as 14 inches. Good thing the Tremor has the traction control to ride the high lines.
Definitely. These roads are maintained by us and the folks up there so I do tread very lightly (we have a 10 mph limit) however there are too many folks who rent in the summer months tearing up the our roads and then leave them really rough for winter travel.

I'll go once up the mountain and she'll hop and fuss maybe slide a little but finds her way.
Then I'll lock 4WD and hit the rear locker for the most rutted out section and the Tremor just scoots right up it like a billy goat.
Thats why we got that uh-oh button in the Tremor. I spin alot on my driveway with nothing engaged, but 4 wheel lock and rear locker will hault that spinning halfway up the driveway if I forgot.
Everyone knows about the Tremor rear locker but the 4WD lock gets little love. I've seen so many vids of Mavs in snow or mud the front wheel spins and then the rear wheel spins and over again and in the meanwhile you've lost your momentum. Sand is the same, once you start digging holes and loose momentum things can get interesting.
I've taken the BS Bandlands up our camp road a few times, center locked with and without the rear locker. Both modes got the job done but with the rear locked it was more fun with the rear wanting to come around a bit following the ruts. With the rear off it was more of a straight drive with minimal wheel spin and better wheel placement control.
Even unlocked the rear is still driving both wheels but as the traction control sees fit.
Love my Tremor

Totally agree that the 4WD lock is just as (If not) more important than the rear locker. It's (obviously) the first one I hit heading up the mountain and only after the switchback heading into the rutted out section do I need the rear locker but what functionality to not have to stop and just a simple tap and I'm engaged while at 5 mph.

If my driving just occasionally needs traction in soft sand, but not off-roading in rough terrain, do I need a true 4-wheel drive off-road package or will the AWD in the Maverick be adequate?
IMO, considering long term, just order the Tremor pkg with Advanced AWD and be done unless you might need more towing capability (4K) now or in the future which i don't think is available with the Tremor. In that instance order the AWD, 4K Towing and A/T Tires

that additional ground clearance doesn't hurt either. ;)

The 4 wheel lock is extremely evident when you have wheels in the air. Lifted tires many times in Moab. If it wasn't locked it would go and actually roll back a bit while throttling up. But if you had the "center lock" going it might pause but never roll backwards. I think the only way for it to send power to the rear in normal mode immediately is to have your foot all the way in it. If not it has to measure a loss of momentum before traction control goes to work. Like you said once you love momentum it can go wrong quick.

Traction wins.

My first and only interior mod was a single small dot of clear super glue on the 4WD button.
Offroad braille, don't have to look down 😁

I usually have to move my wife's phone, cord, and glasses to get to those buttons lol. Had a conversation about a small fire extinguisher that fits the water bottle slot. I told her I would put it up front in the driver's door but she is gonna have to let me use one of the console cup holders. So she said the fire extinguisher will have to in the back door then 🙄.

She do a lot of off road driving in it? 😂
Only once and she got it stuck in a field at a girl scout's retreat. Yanked her out with my Bronco. It was the highlight of the Bronco's time with me.
