Would like your thoughts.

I have obd11 by bafx products for 5 years on my dodge.
I use wireless app called Torque on my phone that allows me to see several things when
troubleshooting. But in owners manual in the Introduction section, the following was written

" transmission of vehicle data to other devices or entities, or altering the performance of the vehicle, may cause interference with or even damage to vehicle systems. " In addition it suggested not to install device in obd from an insurance company for the purposes of collecting data. I did this on dodge with progressive in order to get a lower cost in insurance. So what gives Ford doesn't want that to occur either.

When I use the Torque wirelss app I guess I am transmitting data to my phone, I guess that means devices.
The statement above says that may "may cause interference."

Good question, my bet is they just don't want any aftermarket things connected. Covering there butts. I also have a blue tooth OBD connector and I also use paid Torque app. . I have yet to use it on my Mav though.

Basically any device that exists on the CANBuses via the OBDII port has the potential to cause issues if it interrupts communication on that network. One of my work scantools has the annoying habit of occasionally causing a bunch of modules to restart when initializing connection with Fords.

When I took the fascia off, it required disconection of the single plug that runs some lights. I turned on the truck (to deal with checking my adding diodes in the tail lights), then I got a CEL. I don't know if I would have gotten the CEL or not, had I left the ignition off.

Same thing when I took off the PAD noisemaker to install the towing baseplate.

I plugged in my old Panlong OBD II reader to clear the codes with a simple app (not as nice as Torque), then took it right back off. I didn't see the need to leave it connected once I cleared the codes...but neither was I going to go to the dealer to pay them to do it. No problem since.

so you didn't get any issues when using your panlong wireless. then that should be good enough information for me, if the time comes when I need to evaluate engine light being on.
Were you aware of that warning that ford said in the introduction of manual prior to you hooking up your scanner? I just don't see how it would cause an issue, but I'm not a tech guy.

Yes, that's why I wouldn't leave it connected. It did its job of clearing the issues (that weren't really issues) and then I took it right back off.

I saw the Ford warning and thought that was funny, given all the insurance companies pushing OBD II devices.

I cleared the errors back in September, then towed it 2600 miles, and have driven it another 500 miles or so. No issues. I was annoyed that the warnings did not clear themselves, since I had both the PAD and the lights plugged right back in. Maybe it would have, after a few re-starts, but I didn't want to wait to see.

That trusty cheap Panlong has served me well running Jscan and changing things in my Jeep as well as ForScanLite to reset the battery on my CMax. No need to buy the spendy versions.
