In the months that I have owned my Maverick, I have hauled bikes, tree branches, rose canes, bags of cocoa powder, an ice maker, 8-foot 2X10 lumber, patio furniture, boxes of packing material, and more. None of these would have fit in a Honda Civic.

But I do love Honda. I sold a Honda Fit after buying the Maverick—and it was a terrific little car with an insane amount of capacity and utility for being so tiny. I used to have a Honda Element, which was possibly my favorite vehicle ever—almost like a truck in utility.
There wasn't much an Element couldn't do - For instance lay flat seats for legit car camping. Could carry a full size washer,stove,whatever... Pop up rear hatch with a tailgate that you could sit and have lunch on while raining and stay mostly dry. The best -

We had a 2010 AWD Element, it was a fun ride, with crazy utility. Only real knocks were poor FE & slower than sap. Stupid move on Honda's part to kill it.

I handle the car buying for my parents, and when my mom needed a new car late last year I put a deposit down on a 22 Civic Touring allocation. We picked it up in February. I just drove it on a 400 mile trip the other day. The Civic Touring feels like a different class of car - it reminds me very much in terms of tech/functionality and quality feel of our 2021 Volvo XC40 which cost over $25,000 more.

The Civic is not a truck, but it is an amazing small car. Lifetime average over the past 4,100 miles is 34.5mpg. From her 30s to her 50s she owned luxury cars from Infiniti, Lexus, and BMW. She says the Civic is her favorite car ever.

"To put it in the simplest terms, the Civic is better at hauling people, and the Maverick is better at hauling stuff."

lol.....thats the Captain Obvious dumb-ass statement of the year right there.....

Wait. A truck might be better at hauling things than a car? Say it isn't so!

I think this truck may be the equivalent of the Ranger or S10 from the early 1990s. People bought those because they were more interesting than the Escort or Cavalier. Same for this truck.

Auto journalists are out of touch. Most car buyers (99.9%) are not looking for something they can take to the Nürburgring for the weekend. C&D and Road & Track have always promoted the culture of driving like an asshole, no doubt draining the wallets of many a young man... and killing a bunch of them too.

Yesterday on our drive up to Salt Lake, driving north on I-15 I noticed a silver Element with something poking out of the hood behind us. No way could it be a turbo. We slowed down a little to get a better look and sure enough it had a hood cut-out and GIANT turbo poking out , a FMIC, and was dropped on some much wider than stock tires. The driver noticed us checking it out and pulled next to us and waved, then hit the gas. It clearly had some power. One of the coolest things I've seen on the road in a while.

What is the comparison? The cost seems like only thing comparable. I wanted a vehicle that does light truck duties; why wld I consider a sedan?? The ridgeline wld make more sense, although it’s quite a bit more money.

Just picked up my EB Mav 2 days ago that I ordered in November, got this 2022 civic sport hatchback in February while I was waiting for the Mav to be built and delivered. Was going to cancel the Mav but traded in my GF’s Camry instead. I like both vehicles for different reasons and the hatchback makes a big difference when “hauling” stuff with the Honda but can’t be compared to the truck. I have to keep reminding myself that I’m not in the civic when driving the Maverick when it comes to hitting some of the curves in the road on my way to work!!
