"A lot of miles" doesn't qualify for extreme service.

Towing a Trailer or Using a Car-top Carrier
Extensive Idling or Low-speed Driving for Long Distances, as in Heavy Commercial Use
(Such as Delivery, Taxi, Patrol Car or Livery)
Short Trips that do not allow the engine to get to operating temperature causing fuel
dilution and an increase of the engine oil level
Operating in Dusty or Sandy Conditions Such as Unpaved or Dusty Roads

The above flips you to 30,000 mile transmission fluid changes

80,000 miles in one year, kept driving it thousands of miles when he knew there were some issues, looks of his truck he doesn't do maintenance. And he's hoping Ford will replace it under warranty. I'm not worried and no one should be concerned over one report. Every manufacturer has a small percentage of mechanical failures so if an occasional report concerns you you won't be buying any vehicle.
The amount of miles he has driven has nothing to do with it.

80,000 miles in a year to 2 years is also considered severe duty and as such that maintenence schedule should be followed which in this case if knucklehead here actually read the book he should have already changed the tranny fluid twice by now at every 30,000 miles.
Wrong! You need to re-read the manual.

The 8F35 really was not the right choice for the Ecoboost especially when towing and offroad use are involved. The transmission was designed to handle less torque (258 ft-lbs) than the 2.0 Ecoboost makes. Ford should have specd the 8F57 which is designed to handle up to 420 ft-lbs of torque and I think more suitable for the kind of use many Maverick owners will experience, heavy towing, hauling and some off roading. Add in the fact that Ford advertises 150k mile trans fluid service for normal use and the fact that the 8F35 does not have a serviceable filter (unless you want to crack open the transmission case) it's a recipe for disaster. My thought: Ford engineers recommended the 8F57 and then Ford accountants said nope, pricepoint and then they did longevity testing to see if the 8F35 would generally make it through the warranty period so they went with the much cheaper option. That being said, I plan on changing my trans fluid pretty frequently since it's really cheap insurance.

Edit: I want to remind people that the OFFICIAL Ford maintenance schedule for the Maverick does not include a trans fluid change until 150k miles. These extended service intervals are nothing more than marketing garbage, Ford really does not care if your transmission lasts outside of the warranty. There are not many high mileage ecoboost mavericks out there yet but this is the second trans failure in an ecboost I've seen that was not far out of warranty.
