Hi all,

First, is there any way to get the hotspot? Seems like there is no way to get the hotspot in MY23 Mavericks, which is a huge disappointment as I’m on the road for work frequently and my vehicle is my office on those days.

If no hotspot, does this also mean there is no modem in the truck to utilise the FordPass app to turn the vehicle on? I opted to not even get remote start because I figured I’d never use it if I have the option to have my phone/watch do the job..

I ordered a 23 Lariat Lux FX4 with copilot assist and moon roof.. hoping it gets built with contraints! Thanks for any info you might have!

You can buy a portable wifi hotspot. I have one for my wife's Kia. My F150 has the hotspot and I use it a lot because I don't have unlimited data.

Yes you will be able to use the FordPass
The FordPass operates separate from the deleted hot spot.

Ford Pass (and some other stuff) uses Ford's proprietary modem, which will still be there and functionally connected to the mother ship (as it were) regardless of any third-party hotspot capability.

Looks like others answered the question before you posted. Saved the op some time and didn't seem to irritate the ones who answered, either.

Thanks y'all. I did not know the AT&T modem was a separate modem. That is good to hear!

Why is this question being asked over and over again?

Has the Search feature in the upper right corner stopped working?

Cool, personal attacks are always great.

Helping is pointing out that this question has already been discussed, and that it's best to not start all over with people repeatedly sharing misinformation, which is what happens with repost after repost. The answer is there but wrong information continues to get shared.

Apparently, asking people to search for commonly asked questions, and to not keep repeating the same things in every repost thread, is just asking too much. 🤷

For me, the "hot-spot delete" was a total non-issue.

I've never really understood the desire for a cellular hot-spot built into the car. For the last 8+ years, my cell phones have had hot-spot capability that is at least as good as the vehicle hot-spot. And the hot-spot speed and technology gets upgraded each time I swap my cell phone. This year was my wife's turn to upgrade, so she has a 5G hotspot. (Mine is still only 4G, but pretty dang decent.) We just connect our tables and/or laptops through the phone's hot-spot when we're in the "mobile office."

Added bonus: I'm avoiding yet another cellular subscription when the 3-month trial runs out.

I have a hotspot in my Escape and I've never used it. Given you have to activate it via Ford, I'm willing to bet they have some analytics that show it is an easy throwaway if it ends up being a constraint.

From what I can tell, the FordPass app communicates to the vehicle via a cellular (not WiFi) connection. The hotspot feature added a WiFi access point for devices to use either the existing cellular connection or a second cellular connection (not sure which, though I suspect the former) with a plan that you pay for after 3 months. Ford has a contract with AT&T to allow the limited data for FordPass app to work in perpetuity (or at least as long as their contract stays valid or AT&T exists). My suspicion is that WiFi access point is what is not installed with the removal of the hot spot feature. That said, if you park your car in a cellular dead zone, FordPass app won't work.

(Note, I don't have any real experience with FordPass app... Yet... All of the above is my conjecture based on having a slightly higher than average knowledge of wireless networking.)

Most, if not ALL cellphone plans have a limited hotspot amount. Whether that's 3GB, 15,GB, or 50GB, it's usually then throttled to speeds too slow to stream any video(usually 512kb/sec.) Doesn't matter if you have 5G/4G, after the set amount it's throttled to near unusable speeds.

Looks like the ATT hotspot plans for vehicles is actually unlimited, but susceptible to deprioritization after 22GB. That's different than being throttled and may never affect you.

I see this mostly being used for families that travel with kids that can connect and watch videos/play games. 10-20GB of Data doesn't go far when streaming video for hours on a long trip.

That said, I have no need for this and get Unlimited hotspot using PDANet on my Android phone or my jailbroken iPhone SE with TetherMe.

I've thought of another usecase for the hotspot, though it is probably niche. Many of the higher-end dashcams connect via Wi-Fi to the cloud. If the vehicle that these dashcams are in have a Wi-Fi hotspot, that is probably the easiest way to configure them.
