Also Safelite is coming to me.

I will be able to get work done at home while my windshield is being changed.
A plus the day before a big trip.

And insurance is paying for everything above my deductible and the big chain made it easy. They handle everything.

Yeah I've notice that even blowing beach sand pits it easily.
Hum, i would think blowing beach, desert or drving down the road behind a truck full of sand, etc. would pit any glass

I just had mine replaced. I wanted OEM acoustic but they said I have to pay difference between OEM and unbranded along with the insurance deductible, it was a couple hundred or so. They also said the glass comes off the same line. I ended up with the non OEM and there's no issues with it.

I am not doubting that tiny pits can happen, but the last couple of years have been notoriously more "buggy" than in recent times. Insect strikes can leave these tiny beads of resinous crap that bakes on and windshield wash will not get off. At anything more than like an inch away, they look like a pit in the glass, because they're clear and make the light diffuse.

The only way to get them off is with a much harsher, more mechanically determined clean than your wiper or a quick squeegee does. So you can scrub with a chamois and strong cleaner, like TCP or simple green, or you can try oldschool vinegar and newspaper. Give it a soapy wash first to lift gritty dirt off though, or you might be grinding that in.

Used to be a more frequent thing back in the 80s, 90s that you've have to do a thorough windshield clean every few months.

Best bug remover I ever found was dryer sheets. Get them moist but not soaked. Or wet the vehicle first and you can wipe with a dryer sheet right out of the package. Smells pleasant too!

The blowing beach sand near me comes in at maybe 10 mph. Not like driving in the desert.

I have a request. Before they replace your glass, would you be able to download a db meter app on your phone and measure the db in the vehicle for a short but specific Drive?

Then after the new glass is installed, make an identical drive and measure again.

You would be the first to do this as there is nothing but anecdotal evidence that there is a change in sound inside the cab.
Thanks in advance.
Bob
To make a long story short, at time of installation they said they had to replace with the same.

No acoustic glass for me.
(2022 XLT with heated wiper park)

The part only was $293.12

Labor was about double that because of the camera and Co-pilot 360 stuff.
They have to test and certify it works after, including a road test.

Progressive Insurance replaced our 2023 Lariat windshield with a factory Ford SoundScreen windshield with Heated Wiper park. No deductible whatsoever. Total cost to Progressive which included the safety feature calibrations (our Lariat with Lux has them all) was $1,057.

Total cost for the non-acoustic heated wiper park is about $719 fully installed with copilot 360 sensors certification.

Sadly, like any racket the "cash price" and the price with insurance is different.

When I was gonna pay cash they quoted me $995.

I paid $500 deductible then they billed insurance $219. They probably shouldn't have shown me that.

But, I "guess" the insurance gets "bulk discount"?

Got a rock hit. Need a new windshield.

I call.
I explain the truck can have three windshields depending on trim.

Plain.
Heated Wiper Park.
Acoustic.
There are two versions of the Acoustic windshield because some Lariats have Heated Wiper Park and some do not. 2022 models for example the Lariat trim included the acoustic glass but the wiper de-icer was part of the Lariat luxury package.

When I was having a rock chip repaired at my independent glass store I asked the manager/owner in office what the difference in price would be between the sound proof and the non. He replied "Not Much, some of the suppliers are not even carrying the non acoustic ones due to inventory holding cost they just substitute the acoustic one when needed".

Our 2023 Lariat hybrid has the Lux package and came with the Ford SoundScreen acoustic windshield with the heated windshield wiper park.
