Hello all, brand new owner, with a question on the brakes.

I see all the info on TSB's for the low speed braking. Mine was built in Aug, so I assume it has the latest software.

It's still twitchy enough, trying to creep into the garage the last few inches to get it in the right spot, that I have to ask this - is there a certain amount of break-in with the hybrids, or is this just the way it's going to be?

I had the same poblem - make sure 'Brake Hold' is off. Seems to creep OK now, maybe I just got used to it.

That's just how it works.
Someone said they turned off the Collision assistance and it got better (FORSCAN) but I'm not going to do that....

But also if you give feedback to the engineers and/or complain to the dealer, Ford may work on improving it. It's basically the software that transitions between Regen and the physical brakes.

I have a very steep and short driveway. I need to back up to withing 12" of my garage door so my truck does not hang over the sidewalk.

Even though it is a little touchy in that situation (close work on an incline) I do not find it any more difficult to control than my wife's 2012 Focus with the DCT.

On regular level terrain/driving it is not noticeable. You may just get used to it.

It's just the way it is. No real fix yet. Either the truck jerks to a stop itself, or threatens to not stop at all and you slam on the brakes and jerk to a stop. Very hard to avoid, and annoying.

It's fairly easy to bring it to a nice easy stop. The problem is trying to release the brake pedal if you just want to go forward a few inches. The feedback that you're on the verge of starting to move is not good.

Mine was touch for the first couple hundred miles. I attributed it to the brake pads getting broken in. Part of it was also the “Brake Hold” feature that we didn’t know what it was, but our salesman was pushing buttons explaining things during our delivery demonstration. It was left on when we left the dealer and took about 5 miles of stop and go to figure out “there was a problem” and what was going on. However, the brake hold was kinda the opposite issue, as it took some OOMPH to get the Mav rolling from a dead stop. Whereas the brake pad topic was when trying to come to a stop. Combined, they made the truck feel sticky at slow speeds.

I would say the brakes still grab very well, though It’s calmed down and don’t find it alarming at this point. Time will tell, as we are only at 500 miles total on the truck.

From the owners manual:

Driving Hints - Breaking-In
BREAKING-IN

Your vehicle requires a break-in period. For the first 1,000 mi (1,600 km), avoid driving at high speeds, heavy braking, aggressive shifting or using your vehicle to tow. During this time, your vehicle may exhibit some unusual driving characteristics.

However Idk if this has to do with break in or just characteristics of the hybrid. I thought my brakes were touchy at first but have gotten used to it. Also I feel every brand/model vehicles brakes respond differently.

In the hybrid "creep" is software controller. Electric motors do not have "creep" by design.
The "creep" is a hold over that people expect. It is caused by the torque converter in an automatic transmission ICE. So the engineers programmed it in so the hybrids feels like a "regular vehicle".

I have a 23 XLT. The "creep" seems normal. That being said, I have a flat driveway and garage and I live in a very flat part of the country.

A week later, it seems break-in is complete. From a stop, slowly releasing the brake pedal now gives a very predictable, and controllable start. We're able to put the truck right on the tennis ball hung as a target.
