So I have owned several small businesses in my life and also worked in the car business for a few years. Worked in sales for two separate dealerships. One was a scumbag lying dumpster fire and the other one was a highly reputable company that I am still closely in touch with to this day (20 years later). I make no excuse for dealerships who pull tricks, lie to people, sell Factory orders out from under people or mislead their customer as to what they're buying price will be. I also personally hate unwanted add-ons that soak extra thousands of dollars from the consumer's pocket. For what it's worth I've never been a huge fan of any of extras including extended warranties, window etch, ceramic coating etc etc etc. That all being said, so long as a dealer is open and honest about what they're doing I have no problem with them selling their vehicles at actual Market value. I believe that any dealer that sells a new Maverick at sticker to a consumer deserves a trophy and is doing you a favor. I think a lot of us if we have the opportunity and cash to buy an extra XL hybrid at sticker would do it and turn around and sell it to carvana for a few thousand dollars in extra cash. It's crazy to me how people will call a dealership that's selling a vehicle at actual Market value a scumbag but would do essentially the same thing tomorrow if they could. At the end of the day there are people in this world who care a lot more about their own pocket than the guy buying their truck. Some of them are dealers and some of them are us. Enough said.

I agree. Bought mine at msrp and 2.4 apr through Ford. Waited a year for my xl, no option, hybrid.

I gave thoughts to selling at a markup but I just love this little thing.

I mean….. what could I replace it with?

i still roll around in my 1991 ranger in the snow and when I’m dirty but, I don’t want to take my lady “uptown” in my rusted out ranger.

As they say, it's worth what someone will pay.

Just like a World Series Home Run baseball sells for more than MSRP.

But is that really the same as someone who entered a custom order at a dealer, probably provided a deposit, only to have the dealer add an ADM or sell it to someone else once it arrived?

I'm all for capitalism and the free market, but maybe the dealers should have been more up-front with their customers, and explain the mark-up at time of order?

Not me! I'd hide it in the garage and hardly ever drive it.

OK , maybe. But maybe not. My dealer barely honored the price protection thing 'cause I ordered in July 2021. My wife conceded x-plan to him because he went all confused about it with the "manager" who also couldn't figure it out! Pisses me off just thinking about all the meticulous effort I went through for about 15 months to recieve a basic XL with couple of features. Justified rant complete.

Dealerships are no longer needed. Service centers only. Direct to consumer sales of vehicles. More profit for Manuf. and/or better price for consumer and no need to interact with salesperson.

Needed to be said.

Dealers, with rare exception are not marking up orders. They are marking up rare finds. Like the home run baseball. Ya. Pretty much the same thing. Rarity increases prices.

I haven't seen 1 used Maverick from a 1st owner selling at what they paid for. All are just like the dealers. I just keep my money until I get what I want and how I want at the price that is suggested from the manufacturer.

Exactly, like I said in the post. Making a business decision that is out in the open for everyone to see at least gives customers an awareness of what they're dealing with. The kind of stuff you're talking about is what I have a problem with too

There are lots of jobs that aren't needed anymore. Until it's yours. Just saying

OP... it's your opinion... you think flippers and scalpers are legit... I won't try to change your mind...
There's plenty of shady stuff that happens out there. Technically Walmart is a flipper, right? Anytime a product is bought and resold for more money that's flipping. No difference buying and selling used trading cards, antique cars, you name it by low sell High. Own any stocks?

I parked next to an older Ranger the other day. It actually looks small next to my Maverick
