I've never been a gambler, but that's exactly what this used car market is like right now, and its the entire reason I ordered a Maverick in the first place since I could cash in my 2015 Mazda for a good chunk of money. The question is, when to actually get rid of it? Do I sell it now while the market is hot and buy a cheap used vehicle (I also have a motorcycle I can commute on (and I live in FL so winter weather is not an issue)) or do I keep driving my Mazda until my Maverick eventually comes in and hope the market remains the same? I'm a September order so I don't even have a build date yet, but I'm considering once I do get a build date, start shopping the sale of my Mazda... And then of course comes the production delays, etc...

This is why I don't gamble...
I waited until I got my build date before listing my older F250, and had it sold within a week for $1000 more than I paid for it. Talked it over with my girlfriend first, we have her car and I got an e-bike as well. We're able to do the one-car household thing for a bit, and in the meantime I'm saving a few hundred bucks a month on insurance and fuel (between the e-bike and her Volt we haven't bought gas in the month since I sold my truck!). Build is still scheduled for next week, fingers crossed for delivery by Xmas!

I was on the fence about renewing the registration for my 2005 Forester which expires at the end of the month. My original build date was today, then got pushed to the 22nd. On Saturday Ford updated my Maverick to December 6. As much as I didn't want to, I renewed my registration this morning. If I am lucky I will see the Maverick in January.

FWIW I'm holding onto my Taco to use as a trade in for the Mav. Could be the best bet for models with good resale value.

I'd wait until it's at the dealer AND you've had a chance to give it the once over and confirm that you're going to take delivery.

Given some of the weird delays recently, I'll be using a much finer tooth comb to go over mine when it shows up than I would have otherwise. Nothing would be worse than getting rid of the old ride and have something come that prevents your Mav purchase. As we all know, right now is a TERRIBLE time to be car shopping for something you need right away!

Pigs get fat! Hogs get slaughtered!
This is true of the stock market as well. Everyone loves a bull market, and you can live with a bear market. When greed sets in, you have entered the pig market and you can get slaughtered. I can speak from experience! :( :)

For example, if you haven't been dealt pocket aces for 40 consecutive hands, you shouldn't accuse the dealer or poker room of cheating: the probability of getting a pocket pair of aces is 0.45%, so you should get one every 222 hands on average. The same goes for https://online-casinoau.com/new-casinos/ best new casinos and your dealers, the situation is similar. But if you need to find a decent dealer to sell your car, look in your state, there are
Do you need to sell a car or talk about gambling?

EDIT: Just noticed this thread was from 2021.

Here is my story in getting my MY2022 Maverick. I also have a MY2023 Maverick on order and will sell my MY22 Maverick if I ever get a scheduled build date on the new order.

I only sold my 2015 Honda Fit EX when I had a scheduled build date. I shared my wife's 2009 Honda CR-V Ex for a little over six weeks.

With no build date you really are gambling as to when Ford will build your MY23 Maverick assuming it is an ECOboost. If it is a Hybrid then all bets are off if it ever will be built.

The good news is that at least for Mavericks used prices are finally going back up.

Here is my current offer 2/1/2023 for my 2022 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid:
