Nav has always been on option in the Lariat Lux package

Not for my22. I have my Lariat lux for almost 8k miles. No factory Nav and tbh don't care. My GFs BS Badlands has it and we never touch it.

Not true the 23 lux lariat does have Nav and I was told my 22 can have it added

It requires different phyiscal hardware(APIM) that the now 2023 comes with.

Adding navigation was likely a parts simplification move since it can now be a common module with the Escape.

Not so. 2023 Escape gets Sync 4 standard, there is no Sync 3 on Escape once 22 production ends.

From the Ford website. It is NOT fully self contained NAV. It DOES work thru a cell phone. As I said, a conglomeration of dash radio, cell and bluetooth.
I'll use my GARMIN, not some mash up. After three years, you pay. My GARMIN has lifetime free updates. KISS

If correct, this sounds ridiculously complicated. Says the nav requires SYNC 4 but the 23's have SYNC 3. I guess I'll wait and see. I use Google Maps or Waze most of the time anyway.

Navigation is possible with SYNC3 - I have a Fusion Hybrid and a Transit Connect that have SYNC3 and both have navigation. However, the MY22 Maverick does not have navigation in any trim.

I'm 68 and I use android auto. Even in My wife's 2021 vehicle. I find that the maps are more up to date and the voice search works better. "OK Google, Italian restraints near me" I get a list of Italian restraints near me.

2013 would've been Sync 2, formally known as MyFord Touch. Older, clunkier system with a different interface, etc.
