Sounds like something out of an anime, doesn't it?
I don't care what it sounds like as long as people stop saying "CVTs are..." Or "I drive a Subaru CVT and...." "Or my Nissan CVT...."

Alex gives a lot of good info on the hybrid motor between 2:41 and 4:26.
The transmission is not a regular CVT, I think it means. The planetary (gearing? not belts) is directly attached to the front wheels. And If I follow a little, there's TWO electronic motors (plus the Atkinson 2.5) which simply reverse direction rather than shift etc., etc. Not you grandfather's oldsmobile, so to speak, eh? Not really even your mom's Prius.
Rather intriguing. I hope my hybrid comes in eventually before the price skyrockets.

better than my 350 gets towing that around
And better than my 250. I got 12mpg unladen. Granted the 250 is rated to tow a little more than 2k.

But still, I almost spit out my coffee when I heard he got 42mpg. That's pushing into Toyota Prius V territory. And the Prius V isn't rated to tow, and you sure ain't carrying a washin' machine or five sheets of plywood safely in or on it.

Heck, I had motorcycles that didn't get 42mpg.

As I posted elsewhere, after watching all the videos, I would be down to trade AWD for the hybrid's MPG since I can count on one hand the number of times I need 4H in a year. But I'm still holding my breath for a hybrid AWD.

Big, huge warning: after you've gotten >40MPG, you don't go back. 😉

Prius drivers got a lot of hate but maybe they deserve some of it, because from their high-in-the-sky viewpoint, hearing clapping about 29MPG instead of 25MPG be like: : "what's that? A gnat?? Oh they got mid-20s. So cute. Hahahahahah"

I am keeping my 350....I still tow upwards of 12k pounds......and it's still one of the fastest things on the street.....and it still gets me off when it roars and breaks the back tires loose....and there is nothing like smoking a camaro light to light....

Yup. That one was the 6.8 V10 with the PI heads (310hp...at least when it was new).

Yeah hybrids without an Integrated Motor Assist don't really have transmissions in the traditional sense. Automakers just market it as an eCVT to make it somewhat relatable to the common consumer.

IMA is what the F-150 and Explorer hybrids use. Basically, it replaces the torque converter in the transmission with a motor-generator.

But I agree. Belt-n-pulley CVTs are great for lawnmowers and golf carts. Can-Ams are pushing it. Seeing them in road-going vehicles makes me think twice about buying such a vehicle.

I think automakers went to belt-n-pulley CVTs as a stop-gap measure to boost CAFE while more permanent solutions (HEVs, PHEVs, and BEVs) are developed.

I sold my F250 since I got out of motorsports and didn't need the 8.5x20 enclosed anymore. Still want a diesel truck though. Worked on 'em, never owned one since I couldn't justify having a truck like that and not having work for it to do.

Makes me want to look for a worn out 6.0 and bulletproof it.

Careful....those have skyrocketed even when not running.

Best Review I've seen - have to listen to twice to catch all the data presented...Interesting to learn that the Hybrid has 8.3 inch ground clearance versus 8.6 for EcoBoost...didn't expect a difference.
I think he actually got that wrong. It should be the same between engines and the only way you get 8.6 is with the 235/65R17 tire/wheel combo due to the extra tire height.
