Well, I jumped into my 2022 Ford Maverick XL trim and turned on the engine and got greeted with an alert Low tire pressure . So I jumped out and checked my front passenger tire and yes, I do have a flat tire! I’m impressed that the tire pressure system works and if I wonder how does this technology works? I’m going to use the spare tire but it’s night time and it’s raining. So I’ll do this tomorrow morning. I’m just curious how the tire system will recognized the full size spare tire !! .

On my XL, the “full size” spare isn’t the same size as the other tires. So, I bought a take-off from someone who was upgrading their XL wheels to something fancier. So now my spare is indeed a real full size tire and wheel that matches the others. The only problem was that it BARELY fits under the truck, especially since I have a trailer hitch. It would be tight without the hitch, but the hitch doesn’t leave much room at all. I managed managed to wrangle it in there, but just barely.

Really??!! Wow, thanks for the heads up about the full size spare !! So the spare tire is a bit smaller?? I wonder what’s the size compared to the regular spare vs Ford regular spare ? How confusing!!

The size of the spare is on your door panel with the others listed and tire pressure.

I don’t believe the spare has a TPMS. TPMS sends a wireless signal to your car telling it the tire pressure. The car turns on the light if the tire is out of tolerance. After you change your tire the light will probably stay on until you get the tire repaired/replaced. It’s entirely possible the car is smarter than I think. Let us know!

I always carry the green slime tire sealant kit that comes with air compressor in all my vehicles.

I have used it all kinds of times. It will get you to a tire repair shop then they can fix. I have also helped others with flats trying to get rusty lug nuts off or stuck spare tires.

Removing the valve stem, squeeze half a bottle of slime in and pump up. Easier then taking off a tire and replacing with spare. Also faster, and when you have a flat its usually an inconvenient time / place.

I have ATV tires and snow blower tiers that have green slime in them years and years there still inflated. Stuff works.

I work in a dealer service dept., if you 'slime' a tire that is repairable, it will make it NON-REPAIRABLE for a patch/plug!! Swap to spare and hit a tire store to get it fixed or replaced!! Just from my experience...

Sounds like a fun time replacing a flat with another flat. Hope you have an air compressor handy.

I carry worms and repair tool along with an air compressor. Don't need to remove the tire to repair. Just remove the nail, auger hole, insert worm with rubber cement lubricant, air it up. Five minutes and you are on the road again.

This is great information. I just upgraded our Maverick XL AWD order to a "full-size" spare because I learned that Ford's Intelligent AWD requires all the same tires. Knowing the spare is not exactly the same as the other tires is disappointing. But if we get a flat, I want the spare to be as close to a true full spare as possible, since the AWD cannot be turned off manually. Glad to know I should avoid the slime. I do carry a patch kit and a stand-up bicycle pump that works well for car tires - try it.

Here’s an update to my flat tire situation!! First of all the dealership don’t have any stock Continental Tx tires and they contacted 3 other sources and they don’t have any in stock!! I have 3 options !! Repair the original tire, buy a similar tire that the dealership recommends or get all new upgraded tires! Repairing the original tire would cost around 50 dollars or buy a similar Continental HR rated for 180 dollars or maybe new rims and tires that would cost?!!??

I'd go with the repair and look for the matching tire. Repaired tire eventually goes on spare rim.

I plugged a tire on my side by side that has Slime in it, and it worked just fine.
