Ahhhh! Rail car switching is interesting! A very small part of how they build trains. Think of airlines loading one passenger or a group of thirty at one airport flying them to a hub. The one passenger then changes planes either for his destination or another hub with the group doing the same. Trains work the same way except if hauling vehicles each rail car hauls a group of vehicles requiring sorting at the origination point into groups headed for the final rail yard. If there is no hope of getting a full rail car for the final yard, two or more smaller groups can be loaded into the same rail car and routed to the nearest rail yard possible to intermediate destination of final delivery point of all groups in that rail car. The vehicle shown sitting in an out of they way vehicle yard may have been one or more of a small group and is waiting for a group to arrive large enough to board a full rail car or enough to fill a truck to continue it's journey. Sorting of rail cars can happen and take separate trains unless 80+/- rail cars can be loaded for the same final destination. ("We got a big enough group to charter a direct flight"). NOTE: loading groups of vehicles may and most likely IS a primary deciding factor in Ford deciding which vehicles to build. Think "OK on Dec 8th (sorry I couldn't resist) Let's build a rail car full of San Francisco orders". Etc, etc, etc....

Perhaps you need to go to originating railroad and track car again. Look to see if you can find the railroad who has car now. It is possible that the car has been delivered to another railway and they have not physically moved the car yet but they will be paying accrued fees to the owner of the rail car until they can release the car so tracking is still working. The railroads are exceptionally good in keeping up with where each rail car is and who owes who what $$ per day.

I just don’t understand how they will correct anything in a rail yard. Why not send them to the dealers and have them perform any needed repairs? Most dealers have tons of empty lot space right now anyway.
I wonder how far I need to move my flight back. 2 weeks?
There's literally a body shop at the rail yard where Fords are delivered in New Castle, DE. I don't know if they're all like that but I'm sure many of them are.

FYI - There currently is a "STOPSHIP" on recent Maverick's that are in transit from the factory. I noticed it on a vehicle status page from the dealership, however there has been no notice from Ford yet as to why they stopped delivery on everything that is in transit.

I'm in the same boat my friend - My Mav landed in a rail yard in Petersburg, Virginia on 11/1 and and dealer delivery was set for 11/3-9 - WELL, now Ford has sent me an email stating that my delivery window has now changed to 12/9-15. I have conformation from Ford that my vehicle has been final inspected and is ready for delivery, BUT I have been told that ALL Mavericks (in this lot) have been put on Drop Ship Hold by Ford and I'll be completely surprised if indeed my Mav is delivered in 2021, if then. Of course NO - Sorry, Oops, Compensation, Perks for the delay - only crappy delay emails. This is the LAST time I'll ever order another vehicle.
This is where my Mav is sitting - ONE HOUR from the dealership!!!!!

As someone that's likely with this same situation (but who has a salesperson that is 100% clueless, so I can't say for sure) I partially agree.
On the one hand, yes. I'd definitely rather it be sorted out before I take delivery.
OTOH, with my modules going active back on 10/12 and only being a 6 hour drive from the plant, I REALLY didn't think that out of state travel plans in December would interfere with me picking it up.
It appears I was sorely mistaken and I MAY be testing out my dealer's patience by seeing exactly how long they'll hold the vehicle for me before I return, if it decides to show up while I'm gone.
