I ordered a 2.0 Lariat Luxury loaded back in June. Ford took me through the steps and learned it is sitting in a rail yard in my city. It has been there for a week or two. Contacted my dealer and they said they talked to the Ford regional person. They told me it is waiting final inspection by a regional Ford person at the rail yard before they would release it to the dealer. Does that make sense?
Talked with my Dealership guy today and he said the vehicles waiting there are waiting on chips. All the distribution/shipping centers have thousands waiting on chips.

I caved in and messaged my dealer, just to see if mine was delayed, and he said that it is still showing a delivery date of 11/26, so, I assume it's not delayed.

This could mean that not every shipped unit is being delayed.

Thank you, Captain Obvious moment, but I know some people wouldn't have this info or reach this conclusion, so I'm just sharing.

I highly doubt they are shipping incomplete trucks to have chips installed at a railyard, probably just another dealer making stuff up to answer stuff they don't know. Most likely has to do with the trucker shortage. They need truckers to transport the vehicles from the railyard to the dealerships.

Absolutely!
I mean, at this point, nothing would surprise me, so it could be chips. But I still think that is one of the least likely explanations. Far more likely to be something resembling an early recall or just massive shipping problems, IMO.

Not just the chips. A year ago this time economists and others were warning of a severe shortage of CDL drivers and they expected shortages and delays on everything from regular consumer items in stores to Summer gasoline supply (why I originally read the article) along with higher pump prices. It came true and IMO is probably more responsible for the lack of movement of vehicles from railheads to dealers than chips at this point. More convenient for the dealers to blame it on missing chips though since everyone is conditioned for that problem now.

That dealer is just guessing. Shortage of chips have not been a problem for the Maverick. The most logical, best guess is the shortage of truck drivers IMHO. It is affecting most industries in the US right now.

Spoke with my dealer this morning.. I even offered to load it on a trailer and bring it to him myself.. He wasn't too keen on that idea for some reason..

call it a conspiracy, but any damage in transit must be repaired before the car is released to you.

I doubt this is a wide spread problem and is unlikely to be a substantial cause of shipping delays but, okay..

I'm puzzled about my Lariat Lux FX4 4k order:
  • sent to the plant on October 14th
  • body shop on the 22nd
  • "produced" on 27th
  • released to the body company on the 28th
  • returned from the body company on the 29th
This was the last update my dealer was able to give me - and the tracker website still shows the truck "in production". From what I understand, the body company is where the spray in bedliner is done, and that supposedly took a day. I'm not sure if there are more production steps after the bedliner, but going on 3 weeks seems excessive to finish up a build.

Has anyone else had their truck "in production" for this long?
