MPG Dropped Dramatically

I bought a new 2023 XLT hybrid in the fall of 2023. I got great mpg (over 40 mpg with 540 miles per tank)until May/ June. During summer months of 90-100 degree temperatures and high humidity the mpg fell to around 30 mpg. I'm now getting less than 400 miles per tank. I assume it's the heat/humidity. Anyone else experience this.

Did you reset your gauge values when you filled up? And did you run the A/C full blast when it was 100° out? The HVAC when being used does zap a bit of MPG out of the truck. I filled up before we had days of 100 in my area (philly burbs) and I actually had to drive to a doctor's appt in center city. Still was getting over 50 on the way home. Granted I was NOT using he aircon. Had windows down and cruising around 50 on the Schuylkill.

I got almost 700 out of that tank. Next one was about 620 and my MPG was a consistent 48-48.5. Again, I don't use the A/C much and I also drive my truck normally. Not hypermiling, but not stoplight to stoplight racer either. Seems the MPG is very sensitive to how one drives. Definitely reset your values if you haven't after each fill up. It does make a difference.

I'm in tropical Texas with temps 8 months a year in the 90s. Pretty close to Space X HQ. My truck started out with gas mileage in the 40s and it has leveled out at about 36-37. 2022 Hybrid. 24,000 miles. I do a lot of highway driving keeping it below 80, and put it on leaf (eco) mode when I'm driving. I like that the AC can run without the ICE running, but when the batteries get low the ICE kicks on to do it's thing. Eco mode doesn't make much difference on the highway. I would compare the Eco setting to an F1 car where they can dial back the engine to run at 85% fuel injection vs 100% capacity. I don't have an RPM gauge, just the power gauge. It goes back a little bit when I switch between eco and normal on the highway.

It was a shock to me to see the MPG drop like it did. I read on here that it's common. I'm still impressed with 36 MPG on a little truck. Maybe in 10 years there will be a VW type recall where we all get free fuel for 5 years.

Every vehicle on the road loses mpg with the Air Conditioner running.

10% loss is a rule of thumb.
Maybe more in stop n go conditions and less so (less percentage of total) while at highway speed.

My commute to the office 1-way is about 33 miles. Mostly back roads and such. Speed limits vary from 35 to 55 mph. I do around 42 mpg. If I take the highway and cruise at around 60-65 mph, that gas mileage will drop to about 39 mpg. I have a 2023 hybrid 2.5L. Hope this helps!

Interesting piece on open windows that I initially thought "that can't be", but after thinking about it, I realized the aerodynamic drag of open windows isn't as significant at city speeds. Now I'm wondering if hybrid power might also throw a wrench into the debate on ac vs. open windows? Kind of makes me glad I got the EB because I like being comfortable.
