More bluetooth woes

So I did the radio update thing and it seemed to fix the dropped connection issues I was having with the bluetooth - for a while.

Lately it's been dropping again. At this point, the best I can say is that it reconnects somewhat faster and more reliably than before, but even that isn't a given. Audio playing from the phone will suddenly cut out although it is clearly still running. If I wait it often reconnects automatically.

Sometimes it can't reconnect and defaults to the radio. If I mess with it, sometimes it will get into this state where it tells you it's disconnected and it won't play bluetooth audio, but if you go to select a device to connect, it says it's already connected. Then you have to manually disconnect then reconnect and pray. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't.

At this point I'm just going to get a bluetooth dongle and be done with it because I certainly don't have time to leave it at the dealer. I had one in my old car 10 years ago and it was rock solid reliable.

I can't imagine what's so difficult about engineering a reliable bluetooth module into a vehicle. Wish there was an AUX port so I could bypass the whole mess.

I, too, wish there was an AUX port because my older Pixel 4a phone has one, too. I used it on my previous vehicle, a Subaru Impreza. But the Impreza's bluetooth was just not reliable at all, regardless of mobile device used.

The bluetooth connection from my Maverick to my phone is super reliable. After I get in the truck; by the time I've turned off the headlights, beeping/bleeping naggy shit and hit OK several times to clear the stupid instrument cluster notices, the phone is paired and my stored music has auto-started playing from the Musicolet app.

The lone exception was the first day I tried to use bluetooth, it wouldn't pair with the phone. I rebooted the infotainment system and it's been great ever since then.

I’m right there with you. This is single-handedly the low point of my Maverick experience. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it now: my 2013 Volvo had a Bluetooth connection that didn’t drop once in 9 years. If CarPlay is the issue, I’ll go without it. It’s very frustrating. I’m considering purchasing one of the wireless CarPlay adapters so my stereo will quit guessing and by pass the factory Bluetooth.

I like the physical connection of a plug. Not sure why everyone wants to go wireless and bluetooth - take the 5 seconds to plug in your phone and have a solid connection.
Yeah, you gotta take your phone outta your pocket, but I also have to turn a key to "start" my XL hybrid

For longer rides yes but for everyday short trips that wireless connections is convenient. When it works!

I'd really rather have a reliable bluetooth connection. The good thing about a physical wired connection is that it's a sure thing - it's gonna work. The problem is 1) having to deal with a wire and 2) the connections eventually wear out.

On my old car I hooked a cheap little bluetooth module to the AUX port and powered it off the lone usb port. It would connect flawlessly and never caused any trouble. That way I could play music and stuff without wearing out either the AUX or USB since they just stayed connected the entire time.

Anyone have physical experience with a cheap bluetooth dongle that will work with the mav? Not spending $100 on this.

So I got this a while back and it worked well but I wouldn’t say flawless. Then for some reason my screen would go black with it plugged in. I just returned it to Amazon and they are sending me a new one. Giving it another try because it worked well compared to others I’ve tried.

I just prefer ports. Never had a port give out on me only the cables and they are cheap enough to replace. It takes less than a second to plug in. And if Bluetooth causes issues and you need to keep fighting to get it to connect where's the convenience?

I have a aftermarket Sony radio in my current truck (Ranger). Cost a pretty good amount and it too has connection issues using Bluetooth. Love it when it works and hate it when it doesn't. Bluetooth is great when it works.

Yeah it went up $15 since I bought it less than a month ago.

I like that there is no wire and plugs directly in. It has a right angle adapter that’s great but doesn’t work for me because then my rear window switch gets covered up on my Lariat.

Doubt if you’ll find a decent one for $20

I would try it. The price is very reasonable. It is for iPhone only.
