Ford just filed for a mid gate patent for the Maverick. Probably for the 2028 MY redesign. https://fordauthority.com/2024/05/patent-filing-suggests-ford-maverick-could-get-midgate/

Now that it's moving up the price ladder, it probably makes a better case from their point of view. And Bonus fold down rear seat!Nice! Should have been there from the beginning.
Looking at the pictures, that's not possible because of the wheel wells.I'd prefer a full opening, not just a slot below the window.
The midgate folds forward into the cab, so if the rear window lowered into the midgate, then the whole thing could fold forward into the cab. Like the Fisker Alaska EV truck that sadly will never get made.Looking at the pictures, that's not possible because of the wheel wells.
That would make that small bed much more useable. Too bad I can't do it aftermarket.Ford just filed for a mid gate patent for the Maverick. Probably for the 2028 MY redesign. https://fordauthority.com/2024/05/patent-filing-suggests-ford-maverick-could-get-midgate/

No, it folds out into the bed. Look at the pics. The midgate folds forward into the cab, so if the rear window lowered into the midgate, then the whole thing could fold forward into the cab. Like the Fisker Alaska EV truck that sadly will never get made.
Yup. I see it now. That makes even less sense. No, it folds out into the bed. Look at the pics.
This feature was EXTREMELY popular back in the late 70's to late 80's mini-truck days out here in SoCal. You would take your mini truck to a local customizer shop and they would cut out the rear wall of the cab and the rear wall of the truck bed and reinforce and weld as necessary. You then would install a cab, some with a raised area, some without, keeping the cab level with the trucks front roofline. Next came the carpeting, lighting, mini-fridge and whatever else you wanted! God I wish I could show you photos of this!! I'm telling you, it was THE thing to do to your mini-truck back then. Very expensive as you had to do it right for safety reasons! If the Maverick brings back this idea, lookout!!Dang, one more feature I want! Wonder if I can cut that hole out with my chainsaw?![]()
