There is a video showing a front wheel coming off the front of a pickup truck at freeway speed and the tire rolls in front of another car to the left of it. The flips the car into the air and it finally ends up on the wheels.

I imagine a lawsuit will be going towards the owner of the truck for making wheel modifications.

title of video posted below. I don't know how to link the video or I would.

Kia flies through the air after a loose tire strikes it while driving in California

I saw that video. Amazing how that Kia just rolled up and over that wheel. Odd that I didn't see any vibration or shaking on that trucks front end before it let loose. Did I miss it? Granted the video quality was poor but if the lugs were loose you'd see and feel it. There is no mistaking that.

I'm betting the hub bearing just let loose. Dunno.

I've heard that GM now recommends NEW caliper bracket and hub bolts any time you replace them. Before I would have reused the old ones. The last job I did on an Impala I used the old ones and you know what... they came loose. Caliper worked its way just about completely off. One bolt gone and the other loose, very loose. Two hours from home but found an Auto Value in the next town just an hour before closing on a Saturday.

Watch the video near the end of the crash in slow motion, the rotor is still on the wheel that falls off. So that could be many things that caused that failure and not specifically or solely the lug nuts.

Looked like the truck was lifted and/or had those stupid aftermarket wheels that stick out. Could have been the result of a crappy or poorly installed mod

My wheel fell off while driving. Felt a vibration on highway, it happened right after I pulled off and onto access road. It was a couple days after a service from dealer. It's why I will never buy a Jeep or do business with Autonation again.

I am very fortunate it was a minor issue and not a major one like this.

Check your wheels on your truck. Both our Mustang and Maverick were under torqued by a good bit when I checked after first few hundred miles.

Proper use of a quality torque wrench will also mitigate some future "oh crap" moments.....

That is one of the first things I did after bringing the truck home! :)
