I have been on the fence about a new Maverick Hybrid for sometime, even went so far as beginning the process of ordering a black lariat hybrid, but decided to wait a bit. In the meantime I had the opportunity to buy a very nice used Chevy Volt for a great price. I am using it to run around instead of my 18 GMC Sierra with the 6.2 V8. I can say I really like the Volt. It is smooth, fast and over the last month I have driven about 1200 miles and used a total of $20 worth of gasoline and about $18 worth of electricity. The car has been giving me 48 - 50 miles of range on electricity, this is about all I need to cover my driving on most days of the week. I still use my GMC to tow our travel trailer, haul my quad and take stuff to the dump, etc and I dont see any substute for the cabability of that truck in the near future. That said, I have gone from putting about 1500 miles a month on the truck to perhaps an average of 300 (which still costs me twice as much in fuel/electricity as the Volt). This experience with the Volt has convinced me to wait until the Ford (or some other offering in a small truck from say GM, mabie Toyota) comes out with a plug-in type hybrid with at least 40 miles of range. I really like the initial usability and economy of having full electric combined with decent overall range and freedom afforded by the gas engine component. Personally I am going to hold off for now and see what is offered in the future. Not saying the Maverick is not a cool truck in its current hybrid form, it certainly is for the most part, I just want a bit more electric capability after experiencing what its like to live with it.

Plug in hybrid is amazing. I think you will be waiting some time for plug in hybrid compact truck. My guess is ford makes a plug in hybrid maverick in about 3 years. Wait lists will be worse then current hybrid maverick. . . At one time before plug in hybrid Prius there was a company that would make battery kits to convert to plug in. Wonder if an after market kit could be made for hybrid Maverick.

I'm with you, homie. I'm really glad that plug ins stuck around after Chevy discontinued the Volt, because they are extremely practical. They allow for every day EV capability, as well as completely eliminate range anxiety. I love my Volt to death, man. So much so that I swore I'd never buy a full ICE. I didn't stick to it, obviously (I'm likely going with the FX4), but boy does it feel like I'm tossing money out the window every time I drive my Renegade lol. I'm still hoping they announce a hybrid with AWD before I pull the trigger and trade this Jeep in. I'd prefer a plug-in, but I'd also be happy with a traditional hybrid. That "Rattler" that's been making the rounds might complicate things a little bit, though..

If I have to plug it in, I want to completely fill it that way.
I wouldn't have bought my Prius if it needed to be plugged in.

I am anxious for an all electric vehicle with great range though. And what would be coolest of all, would be to have enough solar power to charge it myself 😉👍

The PHEV makes a lot of sense if you need one vehicle to do it all. We have a ICE pick up truck and an electric car. It's the combo that does it all as a team. We take the truck for long distances or when we need the bed. The EV does everything else including my wife's 65 mile daily commute.

I like it. I’m working on talking the wife into a Mach or a Tesla.

I love my Volt! It is the best car I have ever owned. A plug-in Maverick would be a dream!

That said, it is expensive to make a vehcle that can function truly as an electric, and also as a hybrid/ICE. When my Volt dies, I expect I will be replacing it with a full electric, and keeping the Maverick for the second vehicle.

It is good to have both, whether in the form of one vehicle (the Volt), or two (a BEV and a hybrid).

I bought a used 2016 volt with 19k miles on it in 2019. 3years later (Last Sept) I Sold it to Carvana after I ordered the Maverick Hybrid. I think I got way more from Carvana than any Ford dealer would pay as a trade in. The money from the Volt is set aside for the Maverick so there won't be much left to finance and I am locked in at 1.9%. I probably won't put more than 6k miles on it a year so not a lot of gas either. Todays used car market is a sellers dream with the high prices.

Two months after I bought the Volt, Chevy says they will quit making them. Because it has 2 electric motors and 1 gas motor (which is basically a generator) it is a complex car. Well maybe all new cars are more complex anyway. I got the feeling that Volt parts availability had started to dwindle and certain parts are no longer available. Sure it was pretty much maintenance free and for most of my driving I would only fill up about every other month. I truly liked it but often thought that one control module failure would render it forever dead. My anxiety got the better of me or maybe it was a survival instinct kicking in. So my Volt was sold. I do miss it a little.

We have a 2016 Prius that my wife drives. It is also a complicated car but is more like the Maverick Hybrid and not like the VOLT. For now a relative loaned me a clean Honda Civic I can drive till my Hybrid XLT comes in.

I sort of feel that the Maverick is simply a Prius with a bed, OK, don't start yelling at me.

I think Chevy did not market the Volt well. It should have sold better. It has a loyal following, a good internet forum and is a great car to many buyers.

We are in the same boat since receiving the Maverick last week. Originally we were in a PHEV with a small ICE SUV, but recently my wife traded in for a fully electric and I sold my PHEV C-max to pay for the Maverick. The hope is that this will be the best combo for us, seeing as she drives to work daily in the city and I am WFH and will be going back to driving in 2-3 days a week next spring. The plan is to put all the city driving on the EV, and any longer highway driving, project toting and weekend adventuring on the Maverick. I'd love to see a PHEV or full EV Maverick option down the road, but for now, this feels ideal.
