So upon further research, I think the first video was actually quite overloaded. Looks like you have to pick the weakest link when loading, as they list maximums for the front and rear as well, so ideally some of that load would be tossed in the passenger footwell and fold the seats up and put in the back as well to balance it out more, and not all in the back.
Ford has confirmed you can put the entire total payload capacity for the truck in the bed if you so chose.

Not according to door sticker though, and also warned again on owner's manual to heed both the total vehicle payload but also axle payload:
When adding accessories, equipment, passengers and luggage to your vehicle, do not exceed the total weight capacity of the vehicle or of the front or rear axle (GVWR or GAWR as indicated on the Safety Compliance Certification label).
Ford Maverick Maverick payload capacity maxed out w/ 1500lbs in bed - test by owner Captur

Anything in the bed should abide by "REAR GAWR" limits as well. Above is from a Lariat trim.

Hard to say.....you'd need an actual empty weight for the FR & RR to be sure. The RR is most likely light enough empty to cover the cargo rating, or Ford Corp wouldn't be promoting that.

Ford doesn't have a cargo rating though at all anywhere in the owner's manual or door stickers that I can find, only payload and axle ratings. I looked around, and I don't see that Ford publishes a F/R weight balance empty like they do for some vehicles, probably because it varies between FWD and AWD and hybrid or ecoboost. We'd probably need someone to throw it on scales for us.

You can almost always ignore weird flickering you see in videos. It can happen when the refresh rate of the camera happens to match that of the LCD or LED. Those things never show up on your eyeballs.

Sorry, when I say cargo, same as payload....the infamous yellow sticker.

^This. It's getting into the weeds a bit, but someone eventually will take their Maverick to a CAT scale and show us (1) what their GVWR, payload and GAWR's (front and rear) stickers are, and (2) with xxxx lbs of payload (passengers and/or bed cargo or whatever) what the scale readings are for front and rear GAW's.

JASmith's Lariat door sticker: note that if you add the front GAWR and rear GAWR, it isn't the exact number as the GVWR. Which makes sense. It's a design thing.

More getting into the weeds - a good (and fairly short) discussion on GAWR's is here Reading the door jamb sticker - Ford F150 Forum - Community of Ford Truck Fans . Post #4 in particular. Notice than when he didn't use a weight distributing hitch (WDH) his rear GAWR was exceeded.

But - one thing about the Maverick is, you won't be worrying about/calculating what you can carry/tow using a WDH. So if you generally stay within guidelines, your tongue load (which is a payload component) won't be much over 400 lbs. (or if you use 13% of trailer weight then 520 lbs).

It would have been interesting if the video guy had gone to the scales 1st, got his weights, THEN loaded the 1500 lbs in the bed and taken it back to the scales. Would he have exceeded his rear GAWR? Don't know.

It won't be perceptible to your eyes. That's video frames catching the screen between refreshes. It'll happen with most TVs and light bulbs (really anything with 60hz refresh or less).

So looking up the Honda Ridgeline, someone put it on the scales with a full tank and got:
Front axle: 2800lbs
Rear axle: 2000lbs

So that's like 60/40ish, the Maverick being another unibody truck may be the same. So if vehicle is 3700lbs, 40% of that is around 1500lbs. Rear GAWR is 2770lbs - 1500lbs = 1300lbs you can put in the bed.

At least, I think that's how you math it, which would have put him at 200lbs overloaded in the rear, and with his own weight also maybe 200lbs overloaded all together, so either way he technically should have stopped at 1300lbs of gravel.

You're overthinking it. Ford says, whatever the yellow payload sticker indicates, you can put all that in the bed, minus driver/other non-OEM accessory weight. Or, if you just want to stand there and stare at it, put it all in there. 🤠

Since OP didn't show his payload sticker, we don't really know how much over he was.

Wrong.

That's not what Ford says, Ford says whatever the owner's manual and door stickers say, and they say abide by the lower of the overall vehicle weight or per axle weight. The official documentation is already in this thread. I don't know what can be more official than what is pasted on the door and is in the owner's manual.

What source supersedes Ford's documentation and safety stickers? Hopefully not some Reddit comment or Ford representative in a youtube video when asked an off-the-cuff question.

Take your truck to the scales, get an empty weight for the RR, subtract from the RR GVWR figure from the door sticker, see how that compares to your yellow payload sticker. ;)

Or you could read the thread and notice that axle weight is also a limitation, Probity explained it well. ;)

Of course, but that doesn't change the payload disproportionately. If you use your door sticker as a reference, you'll notice your max axle weights, when combined, are greater than the max allowable GVWR by 250#'s. This allows some variation of load balance, FR to RR. So, with just you sitting in the front, your front GVWR will likely be under (assuming you are not a "large" person...), allowing you to max your RR GVWR, and still be under total GVWR.
