Maybe Ford is saving Ranchero for the Bronco pickup.

I always find threads like this interesting, because it assumes the majority of car buyers these days even remember the Ranchero. They discontinued that thing in '79? I'm 41 years old, and that thing didn't even get built within my lifetime. Like the Chevy El Camino still has a tiny amount of cultural cachet still (though not a huge amount), but the Ford Ranchero has practically none.

Maverick is just sort of a better name.

Since Ford management has mentioned the Maverick could become its own sub-brand, I think they're saving the Ranchero name for some special Maverick trim level.

You know "Hey stud, buy the Maverick Ranchero Edition and bang you boss's wife!"

I read that the name Maverick was chosen not just because it sounds cool, but because the 2022 Maverick fulfills the same basic purpose as the 1970 Maverick. Both were introduced to start a new entry point into their respective markets after Ford oopsied the rest of their line up (The Mustang crushing the Falcon's sales to paste in 1970, and the size creep of the Ranger in the 2000s and 2010s).

So while Maverick may not be an appropriate form factor name, it's still thematically appropriate.

Considering Ford is trying to appeal to a bunch of young city dwellers, Ranchero would be a hard sell. Maybe Bran-Cheerio would work? 🤣

I would have rather had Courier than Ranchero.

Ranchero looked more like a Ute. The 22 Maverick does not.

Well, the 1960 Falcon Ranchero ran on a 105hp engine and capped out at 800 pounds of cargo. And it's 7mpg less than the hybrid Maverick. So we've moved somewhere.

I'm old enough to remember the Ranchero and the Maverick, but I agree. Those old vehicles are irrelevant to the target demographic Ford is after with the current Maverick.
