Maverick Hybrid transmission fluid change at 150,000 miles?

It's been discussed previously and the truth is that you're likely to get many different opinions on this and not a definitive answer. I posted a thread below where it was discussed previously but as you'll see it was mostly a lot of arguing. I agree that 150K miles seems like a rather long time to not change the fluid but at the same time there nothing stopping anyone from changing the fluid earlier. I think I might do mine every 60K miles but I'm not sure yet.

I think 150k is unwise and a flush at 30k is also. At 30k just have level topped off or if you are in a hot climate and have a lot of electrical miles just a drain and refill should be ok. Heat is problem as always and in hybrid keeping the additives in the OEM FLUID fresh that protect the polymer coatings on the windings from deteriorating is the main goal in this trans. I will drain and fill mine probably at 60k although I would like to have full level confirmed earlier. I need to call my remote ford tech that comes to my house and get his opinion on when. (Advantage of remote service in your driveway is winding up with an actual tech's cell number and if you like him can request him when you schedule remote service call).

I did my 2015 Prius at 65k. My Hybrid Mechanic recemmended to do it at that mileage. I will do the same with my Maverick.

The truth is, you probably don't have to change it at all unless you are really hard on it. Most people won't and they will be fine.

THIS IS NOT A TRANSMISSION LIKE ANY OTHER in the past, unless you had an Escape or Fusion Hybrid.

These planetary transmissions are very gentle on the oil and they never get hotter than 20 degrees above whatever ambient is. Really.

Horrible advice. I would say go to a mechanic that knows the ins and outs of hybrids. These are completely different animals with completely different needs.

The generation one Escape Hybrids had LIFETIME oil in a sealed system. You were not supposed to open it, add to it, or mess with it. The Maverick, while updated is remarkably similar to those Escapes.

It's similar to the Fusion 2.5l hybrids with the HF35 as well, isn't it? Because they ultimately have transmission issues with a bearing around 100k if the fluid is not changed by 60k. According to a rebuilder, if you change at 50k-60k intervals you greatly extend the life of the HF35.

Now, Ford may have fixed that bearing issue but personally I plan on changing mine at 50k-60k.

Go by fords recommendation, they should know best they engineered the vehicle. We have two 15 year old dodges,they have lifetime transmission fluid that's never been changed, one has almost 200 thousand miles and the tranny is fine.

30k is not soon enough. Change at 20k or sooner. I change my Trans Fluid at every Engine Oil/Filter change. 5000 miles which is once a year for me.

I would never go 150k on the tranny fluid in any vehicle. Depending on the type of driving you do, and if you tow, 30k is reasonable. I've seen some YouTube videos on how it is done and it doesn't seem difficult to drain old fluid and refill with the FoMoCo spec fluid.

I would rather do a drain more frequently [i.e. 30k] than a flush at any mileage. At 30k you should not have accumulated crud unless you really abused your vehicle.

I am old school and believe a flush is a recipe for problems. You run the risk, if in fact you have crud, of the crud lodging in small orifices. Then only a rebuild$$$ can bring your tranny back to life.

The hybrid transmission doesn't shift through gears, so there are fewer opportunities for mechanical wear. There are no synchros or clutches that would break down over time and contaminate like traditional transmissions.

I might change my fluid once before 150k, but there are better uses for my money than changing it every 30k like my other vehicle's 10-speed.
