Maverick GPS Options

Has anyone been able to connect a GPS unit to the Maverick's Sync 4?
A quick look around on google turns up a Garmin GLO 2 Bluetooth GPS Receiver.
This unit does not have it's own screen. I assume that an app would have to be
installed on the Sync 4. I have a stand alone GPS device but it would require
a window suction cup. My 2025 Sync screen would ideal.

The Ford salesman suggested that the truck came with GPS. Discovered that
a connected cell phone with GPS app is required.

Any suggestions from the Maverick forum would be great.

With no phone connected so it's not part of the equation - in Fordpass app you can't see location of truck on last park?

I'm sure I'd seen some screen shots from 25MY drivers showing that, but maybe not.
It works correctly in pre-25MY trucks.

Been using it with android auto for a year & works great
Even used it in a rental car on a trip with no problem

Tried the app out this afternoon. Seems to work very well.
Thanks for the tip. Just have to figure out the finer details.

Hope everyone that wants a easy fix for navigation sees this post.

Cant tell you how helpful it was on a trip to BC, the road system in the North Vancouver area is crazy complicated!

PS: just for laughs I tried it on the plane ride out to BC, it works if you have a window seat

Maybe if your Maverick model has the Ford Navigation included, it would be fine.
I'm just not willing to pay an annual subscription to have the Ford Nav included for my XLT.

There was an option somewhere to go through the phone's GPS transponder, (not just talking google maps vs ford nav) AND there's an android util to use external USB GPS dongle, so if you wanted one to mount on your roof so you actually get signal in mud gullies or something then you could go that way. I saw that on FDroid market not google play.

So, I realize that I am one of the few people on the earth without a smart phone. As you know the 2025 XL doesn't have nav in the system as a default. Are you saying you can pay Ford to have that added to the SYNC system?

I agree, we use Waze as our primary mapping app, but I still have my Garmin portable GPS with a lifetime maps updates included...just have to remember to update it every 6 months to stay current-ish.

The Garmin is a great choice to have in the areas we visit with no Cell service, and we find a lot of areas like this as we roam, it seems.

Many different answers to the question. You just have to go over them and find the right one for your situation as they all have pro's and con's.

It would be less expensive to buy a cheap phone & install the Free here we go app.
You don't need a sim card or phone plan to make it work

Google maps also works offline if you save maps in advance. Don't get traffic then of course, and I think it economises POI etc data, but you still get all the streets.

Amazon Fire tablets seemed to be the cheapest useable android around with a GPS receiver and since they are also fairly light I had a plan to put one of those on the back of a sunvisor on a navless car I had a couple of years back until it became clear I wouldn't be driving it any more.

Ford still uses TomTom

I admit I have a smart phone and all the apps but for now I paid the $80.00 connectivity fee and use the Ford Navigation it work great
