Oh oh, I know this one!!! (Raises hand enthusiastically)

That there tire is 235mm wide with an aspect ratio of 65 meaning the sidewall of said tire is 65% of 235mm which is 152.75mm. Gotta multiply that by 2 cuz there’s a sidewall on the top and bottom so 305.5mm. Convert them there metrics to good ol’ American inches and you get 12.03”. Then you gotta add the 17” hole in between the two sidewalls. Overall diameter is approx. 29.03”. Do that with a 225/65/17 and you get 28.52”. But as someone mentioned, this is just a calculation. Individual tires of the same size but by different manufacturers can and often do have slightly different dimensions.

So yes, two tires with the same wheel diameter and aspect ratio but different widths…the wider one will always be taller than the narrower one. Had a buddy at work that could never wrap his mind around that.

I wonder how the warranty department at Ford defines "off road."

Most likely not paved or maintained road (gravel, crushed gravel, etc.) if I was guessing.

It’s not truly important how off road capable the Mav is. All we really need to know is that it’s not as capable as a Bronco Sport. I asked a question over on their FB group in which I made the comment that a Mav was basically a BS with a bed. Boy did they set me straight. Just so y’all know, the BS is a dedicated off-road vehicle and the Mav is a city dweller. At least that’s what I was told.

Sir, 235 and 225 are width of the tires in mm. The tires have identical side wall heights = 65mm, both on 17" rims.
Lasty, all FX4 are AWD. The extra height comes from suspension changes not tires.

Side wall height is NOT 65mm, it's 65% of the width. The suspension does not change height in any way between FX4 or non-FX4. Monotube rear shocks don't provide lift. As far as we know, there's zero difference in the front suspension either. If Ford lifted the FX4 model, we'd know about it. They wouldn't keep their descriptions of the suspension vague with no mention of additional lift, we'd see it hyped up everywhere.

Also notice, how they explicitly list the tire size right there in the tech specs? That's because it's the driving factor for the difference in the numbers. An FX4 equipped with standard 225/65R17 Pirellis will be identical in height/ground clearance as the FWD hybrid. Sorry if this isn't what a lot of you wanted, it's the facts Ford has provided. Drive modes and tow hooks won't get you any further along "off-road", might give you a little mental boost to hit up some gravel roads, but this "off-road" package, isn't turning your Maverick into something that can follow right along the same trails as a Bronco Wildtrak or something.

You do realize i was going by the spreadsheet that specifically listed the tire diameter and was highlighted in yellow immediately after the words tire diameter? look above i know how tyre numbers work, have since about 1984 when I started driving. Look at post 34 of this thread for what I was referencing

Wonder if a dual clutch rear can be swapped in place of the single clutch later on in the future after people have totaled their Bronco Sports.

They weren’t all that way. Several of them were very nice and polite and tried to answer my question which was simply asking for opinions on the 8 speed transmission that the BS and Mav Eco share. But a few wanted to know why I “came to a Bronco page to ask questions about the Maverick.” When I pointed out that the Mav is basically a BS with a bed, you would have thought I’d thrown my glove down, spit in someone’s eye, and insulted their mother!

Even had one fella tell me how they share an engine, transmission, and a lot of the suspension and drivetrain…but that’s it, everything else is totally different.

The Subaru Outback/Crosstrek/Forester all have 8.7" of ground clearance. The Maverick FX4 will have 8.6" of ground clearance. I've got no idea how off-road worthy the FX4's AWD system will be.

The rims sold me on the FX4, the AWD will be a bonus on the dirt roads around me. As far as compared to a Bronco sport, I think it may be better because of the extra torque and horsepower vs the 1.5L (except the Badlands that one should be better)

That person was the Ford Maverick Product Manager, in a Youtube video. The suspension is different.
