I don't use FordPass app, nor do I have it installed on my smartphone. I am looking for options for starting the engine via the key-fob. As far as I can see, there are two options:
  1. Start-X Remote Starter
  2. Ford Perimeter Plus Vehicle Security System
Start-X does what it says, just starts the engine with the factory key-fob. The OEM perimeter plus also includes remote start, in addition monitoring the impact to the glass, or body panels.

Start-X seems easy to install, about 10 - 15 minutes. The perimeter plus on the other hand seems a bit more complex. I don't mine adding the additional security to the Chachky, but the manual isn't easy to read.

Did any of you installed the perimeter plus (Part #: KN1Z19A361A)? Any feedback would be appreciated...

TIA...

I’ve thought of getting this. It’s a pretty simple install.

you apparently can use your existing FOB with that kit too. Lock/unlock/ lock will start, IIRC.

I had the dealer install the Perimeter Plus/Vehicle Security System on my 23 Maverick, primarily because of the high vehicle thefts in our area. The remote start with the original key fobs is a bonus.
From reading the installation instructions and some Youtube videos, it is basically plug and play, separate the cable from the OBD2 connector, install t-harness and secure control box under the dash with the zip ties. I was told by the salesman and the technician that the system will also send notifications to the Ford Pass app on my phone.

Thx...

The OEM kit is easier to install than the Start-X, there isn't much programming to do for remote start. Simply push the start button on the Maverick without pressing the brake, accessory mode, then press the button again prior to finish loading the accessory mode. And off you go...

Programming the perimeter plus does not seem hard, basically adjusting sensitivity. The kit comes with a manual that will help with that:

Ford Maverick Maverick fob remote start... perimeter_plus

The chances are that there's a setting in Forescan to adjust the alarm sensitivity. I am so ordering this one...

Thx everyone for your replies...

Yes, I am still trying to figure a lot of stuff out, only had the truck for less than 48hrs. My salesman said to make notes, questions, especially about the electronics, technical stuff and we will go through them in about a week. He always makes time for a second part of the delivery process to ensure a customer’s questions are answered.

There's a 15% off for the Perimeter Plus with discount code of "SPRING15", until 05.31.23. Mine is on its way... hopefully...

Got mine today, used the SPRING15 discount and points. Dealer installed it. With my points and the discount it cost me $38.

I just installed the Perimeter Plus (KN1Z19A361A) on Saturday.

It was super simple, the hardest part is accessing the back of the OBD connector to unplug the harness there and plug in the new harness that comes with the kit. The only thing that makes it 'hard' is that it's just an awkward place to access. I ended up taking the OBD port off temporarily (2x 8mm nuts) to make it easier to access the back of it. I just tie-wrapped the new box behind one of the harnesses in that area.

The only 'programming' you need to do is a somewhat elaborate 'dance' involving the drivers door, the key/push button switch, and the brake pedal. That's how you turn on/off the extra security sensors. The truck honks to let you know when you're doing it right and what mode it's in (enabled or disabled). It's all covered on page 8 of the Ford installation guide.

If you just want the remote on/off on the existing key bob, that worked right away for me, I didn't have to follow the "Programming Key Fobs" instructions on page 12 of the instructions. All the fobs worked right away.

All in all, I spent way less than an hour on the whole project including gathering tools and cleaning up.

The range on the Fob is not that great - it doesn't seem to work as far away as our 2016 Escape does.

Still, for me, it was worth it, as it doesn't need cell service or anything else to start the truck.

@cneth Thanks for the heads up for removing the ODB connector...

The range on the Fob is not that great - it doesn't seem to work as far away as our 2016 Escape does.
Can you guess the distance from where the engine can be started? I think there's a remote fab available to extend the range, that fab actually has a telescopic antenna.

I just tried in the driveway and it seemed like the remote range peters out around 50-60'. That's for any function - unlock or start
That's more than good enough for me, my Chachkie is parked next to the house. Currently, I can lock/unluck the truck from the inside.
Thx...
