Well said. Those parking lots are spread all over the country. My built Mav has been sitting on a lot outside Petersburg VA, along with others, since Nov 4 with no relief in sight. Those of you with vehicles still in Mexico, regardless of build status, will probably receive your trucks before us unfortunates that have built vehicles in remote lots awaiting chips. We will be last in line.
I know exactly where that yard is. I drive past it every day.

Does anyone have any idea how hard it is to put missing chips in vehicles? That could really slow down installation. My experience is that auto manufacturers put expendable parts in the hardest to get to places. Examples include, Chevy Monza V8 spark plug replacement (drill a hole in the wheel well) and the Ford F250 fuel pump replacement (cab off required -I never personally encountered this one, but understand it to be an issue on some years), and the heater core replacement on 90% of vehicles.
The Ford factory isn't installing any "chips". Circuit board construction is almost certainly occurring at suppliers (or their suppliers). We're talking plugging in a computer/module into the wiring harness. And I'd be really surprised if they didn't just stop builds at the normal point in the assembly process. They aren't in the business of what would essentially be repair work.

Are you sure yours is missing chips? Why would they ship it offsite if they haven’t tested functionality yet? Or does that make sense logistically to have a local/regional shop do the same work the factory techs would?
I’m not certain of anything. News articles say that remote lots are filling up with cars awaiting chips. That being the case, it is the most likely cause. Here is an example from Car and Driver: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37050732/ford-dealerships-chip-supply-shortage/
There are many more.

Well shit there it is, I guess it does make some sense to go ahead and send them if they have rail space they can use up. But yeah I wonder what the liability status is for those (allegedly) chip-limbo’d trucks. Do the dealers have to be responsible?

That is interesting. But from the auto computers I've seen, none have had boards of the type where a "chip" would be installed outside of a specialized line in a factory. I'm pretty sure something is being lost in translation.

When Ford refers to a "chip" what they are really referring to is a module that contains lots of chips. In that module it might be just one chip that is in short supply but it is keeping them from completing the module for installation into the vehicle. The issue that occurred in the past, specifically with the Bronco Sports and Escapes, was the Restraint Control Module. Once Ford had the completed module, it was less than half an hour per vehicle to install. Modules are also replaced by the service departments at dealerships whenever they fail, so it isn't something that would require a specially trained technician since they aren't repairing the module - just replacing it.

Yeah, not mine yet. 😡
Well it may have just been to move it to storage since it still isnt listed as built on tracker still so it may need a module to be truly built

The VVR shows mine as produced but on chip hold.

Still showing a January 2 ETA so it would have to be shipped in less than a week to make Dallas on time.

Still hopeful.

If what Tim said is right then I think its safe to say that this chip issue won't cause long standing delays. Sounds like Ford resolved it quickly to keep production moving properly.
The way he talked it was something simple to fix that would only delay a week or so? Like maybe opening wrong container or something like that!

Maybe no long standing delays for the current production line, but he didn't address (and he really isn't able to) how long it's going to take to put the chips in all of the vehicles (both Maverick's and Bronco Sports) that were built in those two weeks without them and then parked in the desert.

If Hermosillo is making 6,000 vehicles per month, that is 300 vehicles per day, times 10 days (presuming that it didn't go more than the two weeks that they claimed), equals 3,000 vehicles that are just sitting while they continue to make 300 vehicles PER DAY.

I’m guessing mine is in the same boat. My vehicle has been in production since at least 12/3 and shows a blend date of 11/24. It’s also still showing a 01/07 ETA… don’t really think that will happen.

It looks like it’s going to be a very short chip delay. I was scheduled for production last week (12/6) and had a blend date of 12/9. Last night I received a rescheduled production email for this week (12/13) along with an estimated delivery date of 1/24/22. I just checked my modules and they have activated, so I expect a Built email message soon.

No, for those whose trucks have already been built without the chips, it isn't going to be a short delay. Yours was rescheduled and built AFTER Ford got replacement chips so it was never sitting in the desert waiting for them. The last time that this happened back in June of this year, those vehicles waiting for chips sat for FOUR MONTHS before Ford put in the missing chips, and I know this from personal experience.
