They're not supposed to deploy on rear impacts.
Seems to be a very common misconception, that in case of crash, all airbags deploy. This keeps coming up.

Airbag deployments are sudden, violent explosions. As such, they have the power to do a lot of damage. The reason they are used is because they can do more good than harm. However, not all impacts warrant airbag deployments. Some impacts aren't severe enough to deploy any airbags. In other cases, some airbags may help while others will not.

The computer makes a determination based on the location and intensity of the impact force, as well as other factors such as the passenger seat occupant switch, to determine which airbags are likely to protect you in any given crash.

Take, for example, a deer darting out onto the road, straight into the left front fender, then shattering a headlamp lens, denting the hood, and tearing up the bumper cover. While jarring, and while it caused ~$3300 in damage covered by a comprehensive claim, neither front seat passenger was thrown around, so there was no need for airbags.

I have basically the same rear-end damage on mine and it took around 3 months for them to get all the the parts. Just dropped it off for repair this morning.

This is why I plan on leaving the biggest ball mount in my hitch receiver all the time.

UPDATE!!
Just got my estimate for repairs.
$11,000+!!!!

That’s about 1/3 of the cost of the truck.
The “frame” is a little bent right at the very end, so the entire “frame rail” will need to be replaced. That rail is $2000+.
The tailpipe is bent so the entire pipe needs to be replaced. It’s $1300+.
Tailgate needs replaced, $1170+.
Bumper cover w/sensors $860.
Trailer hitch assembly $770+.
Almost $7000 in parts alone.

I’m sad 😞
It’s the most money I have ever spent on a vehicle before. My first brand new, ordered all the options myself, vehicle.
It’s got 1800 miles on it and I know it will never be as good as new again.

**full disclosure: I did buy my wife a brand new Kia 1.5 years ago. 😅

Hit a deer with mine in June. Ford has STILL not sent the grill or a piece of trim for the driver's side as of DEC 10 2022. Had to replace basically the entire driver's side of the truck (doors, panels, etc). $8K.

My car got hit in 2010 and I took it to the body shop operated by the dealer group in town. I told my technician to repair it like it was his car and not to worry about what the parts cost or the time spent- I would deal with the other guy's insurance company on that. Twelve years later no problems and I don't think anyone would ever know it was hit inside or out. It is possible to do a really great repair and that's what you should get.

Honestly, I have no clue. I should ask the shop. It's probably pretty similar to yours, although I'm hoping they don't have to replace part of the vehicle body.

To my eye, it looked like the beam that goes across right behind the spare tire was bent somewhat.

They’re going to order parts on Monday. I was told it could be a week or 3 months to get the parts. Basically they have no idea.

Assuming insurance is handling? I know it's a lot of money but at least not totaled. Is it drivable still or due to frame damage not?

Yes, insurance is taking care of it. So far they’ve actually been super easy to deal with.
It’s totally drivable. It barely looks damaged.
I’ll get some better pictures of the damage.
