If anybody seriously wants to understand BEVs and especially automotive battery technology, I suggest you watch a few episodes of "Munro Live" on YouTube. They have disassembled battery packs from multiple OEMs down to the cell level. You can see dramatically different strategies for battery packs.

Also, between "Munro Live" and "Autoline After Hours", you can get an insight into the crazy pace of BEV development going on right now (and for the last decade). And why batteries of 2034 will be half the weight, twice the range, and half the cost of what's being sold in 2024. The pace of improvement in BEVs is truly insane.

Cadillac Lyriq is over 5,900 lbs.
Today’s diesel trucks are heavy, maybe because they are capable of towing substantial loads🤔
We were worried at work if our lifts would be capable of safely lifting the Caddy.

If they can actually do that, invest in hay and buy a horse.

Another thing that i realy like about EV's is that some have the capacity to be used as a power backup on case of a blackout, and their battery capacity is way way bigger that our current home battery solar panels systems, that convenient alone is huge for places like the caribean,in the south of USA or many places more prone to natural disasters.

Not to be a wise cracker but……..
How are you going to recharge your EV when it’s out of juice.
A gasoline powered generator?

Don't have a clue about the voltage and electronics needed for that.

Not to be a wiseacre ;) but the average monthly energy use for a home here in Ohio is 879kWh.
A F150 Lightning has 98kWh (the small battery) of usable power stored when fully charged, about 3 days without cutting back on the AC or anything else. A that point there would likely be enough left to get to a charger.
A Mach-E has the 70kWh battery, again the small one.

Some backup is certainly better than no backup. But considering the cost for said backup, I hope it's not the only one someone purchasing an EV would rely on.

Not a EV advocate but if I were to get one it would have to have that capacity.

Fair enough, but that’s assuming the infrastructure is restored enough to include charging stations. Maybe it would be, I surely don’t know.
I guess it would depend on what caused the power outage.
Would a PowerBoost be a better option?

Solar panels ? And if your EV charge fast you could leave it charging at the mall or whenever place you could find, then brig it home and have 2 or more days of power to cover some basic needs as fridge+fans+lights..

Like old school 60s-70s removing engine and transmission minus fluids and driveshaft plus 400-800V potential death.
I almost got pinned under a iron 3 spec and iron transfer case with a jeep wedged on top of it. Danger everywhere.
