Just wondering if anyone has tried installing one? Not even sure there is room around it to be able to TBH (the 12V one under the seat). Anyone from northern climes look into it?

For the 12v battery? Why, it's inside the vehicle. It won't get cold as fast as one under the hood.

A trickle charger would be cheaper and easier to hook up.

Most lead-acid batteries are fine to -40°. They don't need "cranking amps" in the case of the hybrid so even less worry.

A better question:

"Should we install battery coolers?"
Inside parked cabs in the southern states is going to be detrimental heat.

As lead acid batteries absorb high heat, chemical activity in the battery accelerates. This reduces service life at a rate of 50% for every 18°F (10°C) increase from 77°F (25°C).

Example:
A 6 year battery at 77°F (25°C) will last 3 years at 95°F (35°C) and will last 18 months at 113°F (45°C).

Even if your town never reaches 113°F, the inside of your truck does, often.

I think I just found a reason to have the rear window open on my truck!

I think being mounted low in the cab, under the seat, and in it's own compartment, will mostly avoid the high temps experienced in the rest of the interior. Under the seats in most vehicles stays relatively cool. Edit add: In reality, I think it's probably cooler than under the hood.

It will just the same if it's sitting out there a few days.
You can put a battery blanket on it if you feel it's needed. I have never had one through 40 Chicago winters.

I think your best bet and bang for the money would be to opt for a block heater.
