Perfect... Thank you Andy. I have to laugh. My first car was 1965 Mustang. They don't make them like that any more. I'm glad there are guys like you that read the fine print. Thanks for the gouge. Tony
No problem, there are quite a few members here that enjoy helping out with questions, just glad it is appreciated!

Have a good one,

Andy

I had trouble understanding that there was ambiguity regarding how to see the 12 volt batteries charge status...till one of the last posts.

Then I understood what the problem was.

I am just glad we were able to sort this out!

Turn power on, turn power off...at that point you have 60 to 90 minutes to read/monitor what your 12 volt battery charge level is.

Have a nice evening,

Andy

Edit added below for clarification

Ps I just reread your post and to be clear ACC power is when you press the power button without pressing the foot brake...this turns on the hi voltage battery and accessories (ACC), then press the power button again, open and close the door to turn off all the accessories and you now have just the 12 volt battery reading remaining.

Gosh, I hope I got it right this time!
On key start - Acc is on it's own position, and the battery reading on the port.
Click over to On, now the HVB is charging, port reads charging Voltage.
Click over to Start, and of course it comes back to rest at On, truck is ready.

Push button start - the manual says push Start with no brake and you'll get Accessory position.
But it's not, because it's HVB charging level, not just battery level.
That would be equal to On position in terms of what's connected.

So the routine you described - you gotta shut it off quick, otherwise you are getting a 12V battery reading that was just hit with a charging level Voltage and high Amps.
So it won't be very accurate - but you can be consistent for daily readings.

I'm very doubtful you'd get 60-90 min, unless battery was very fresh.
But since this is start of day - probably gotta get going anyway.

I discovered something. I thought the accessories would stay powered after shut down for up to 90 minutes. When I checked the battery after shut down, the volts dropped from 14.6 to 11.9 on Cigarette Lighter Volt Meter. Then I opened and shut the door. 30 seconds to a minute later the interior lights and parking lights turned off and the cigarette lighter volt meter went out. So my truck electric accessories do not' stay powered after vacating the truck. I thought it did. So I will keep my dashcam plugged in from now on without using an on off switch. Good to know.

Because you are below 12.1 V.
And that 11.9 V is inflated if you had just driven - resting in the morning probably lower.

Your truck is in battery saver mode - to conserve the battery best it can.
Systems off almost instantly as you discovered.
But if fully charged - upwards of 75 min pre-25MY, 60 min 25/26.

Your trickle charger should work, as long as it is appropriate for your type of battery.

I completely support charging your battery now and then! I do it quite regularly....every month or two.

That said, I know I had a smaller trickle charger but bought a 2nd larger smart charger that goes up to 7 amps...reason being you need more amperage for the smart charger to do a better job (for example, your battery needs to be de-sulphated/reconditioned).

A larger amperage smart charger also means it can charge faster, while also following the best charge profile for your particular batteries needs (hence the term smart charger).

This doesn't mean a smart charger is the be all-end all, it just means where possible it can help you with a better chance of a good outcome-not all batteries can be saved if too far gone or have a dead cell...and do it more quickly if it is still a good battery.

Cheers,

Andy

I have a smart charger. I will give it a go Thanks. Such BS these batteries have this issue. That and the CV joints, everything else is great. Thx Andy

Now that winter is over (it hit 42F degrees here today!) and also that I turned off all connectivity on my truck 1-2 months ago, my 12V battery is looking fine!
However, I would like to give it a "spa-day" using a 5 amp smart charger.
I can see that a proper charging isn't "Needed" at this time, but I'm wondering if drawing the 12V battery down with maybe 8 hours of flashers operation followed by the smart charger would give the 12V battery a useful conditioning/reconditioning?

If that smart charger claims any repair processes - just letting that happen for 24 hrs is probably a good idea.

Spa day.
Little baking soda water wipe off.
Little oil around the post connectors.
Maybe a little felt pad to feel special!
Cucumber slices on the .... never mind

I went down the same rabbit hole a lot of people here are in—low voltage readings, battery saver kicking on early, constantly checking readings, and even considering trickle charging just to keep things stable. You can see in threads like this how common it is for people to rely on chargers or constantly monitor the battery just to keep it happy. I honestly got tired of dealing with all of that.

At a certain point I just gave up on the whole “manage the battery” approach—no more trickle charging, no more worrying about voltage drops or the truck’s quirks. I switched over to the Ohmmu Group 24F H5 Sodium Battery and it’s been a night and day difference. It handles temperature swings way better, works with the Maverick’s charging system without fighting it, and since installing it I haven’t had any of the issues I was dealing with before.

For me, it turned into a set-it-and-forget-it solution instead of constantly babysitting the 12V system.

LMAO! I recommend a shot of Vinegar to maintain acidity. This is good reading.

I'm still LMAO today! Heybales, should those cucumber slices be 8mm or 10mm in thickness?
