I have a 2022 Maverick with 36,000 miles and need new tires. I have the stock Continental Protract TX tires which seem fine. Cane someone recommend tires that would offer a smoother ride? I prefer a smooth ride over traction!

-Thanks

I suggest you go to tirerack.com and take a quiz to identify your tire performance preferences. You don't have to buy from them but they do offer a lot of information and test ratings to help you make an informed decision.

If you've ruled out all weather tires and just want a standard all season, these would be some to look at.

1. Michelin Defender 2 - The safe choice, gold standard tire.
2. Continental CrossContact LX 25 - Looks like a nice SUV specific tire, bit less than the Michelin.
3. Yokohama Geolandar G058 - Yokohama's newer tires seem rock solid.

I know people have had mixed results with the OE Continental TX tires, but I was honestly pretty surprised how well they handled one midwest winter that saw some decent snow and ice towards the end here. I would definitely consider Continental tires again at least if a cheapo OE tire does this well.

Thanks, they have a lot of options there.

Did you take the quiz ranking your preferences for traction, noise, comfort, wear etc....

No, I didn't see that. I'll definitely check it out though!

The Lariat’s, at least the fwd ones from 2024 and earlier came with Michelin A/S series. I consider the ride and quiet in my Lariat to be very good with these Michelins.

Note that there are At least three in the A/S series. Some with different speed ratings and tread depth. I am partial to Michelins because the air bladder design maintains air pressure better than most and they typically balance with less weight.

I always insist on tape weights inside the rim as opposed to weights attached to the outside lip. This, both for appearance and if you or your wife hit curbs when you park, they don’t get knocked off.

Keep your tire pressure at 35lbs all year round, few pounds make a big difference on my 22 FX4 with the continentals. I find it amazing you got 36k on yours, I have 14k on mine and there almost shot only 14k, local driving only. Won't be getting them again.

I think they're rated at 55k. But from what I've read you never get as many miles from new cars for the same tires. I measured my tread with a depth gage and they are in the yellow. I drive like an old man though. Actually, I am an old man! :)

Yokohama Geolandar G015 gives an exceptionally quiet smooth soft ride for an AT.
I’ll be putting the Faulkin Rubitreks on mine. Have them on my back up suv.
They look real truck ish but are all season smooth and quiet. As for a soft ride, I’m a hard ass I don’t think about such things.
Both the ones I mentioned were plenty plush for me.
FWIW I will go from 225/60R 18 to 235/60R 18
So with the slightly increased tire volume I will do as always. I’ll run one psi lower.
My door says 35 psi on the 225’s
I’ll do 24 and get even tread wear across the tire per my tire depth gage.
I’ve always done stuff like this.

The G015’s $189 at my Ford dealer, same as Walmart.
The Rubitreks $142 at my Ford Dealer,
$25 cheaper than Walmart.

Michelins all the way. Any. I bought cheap and hate them for the ride and noise. Spend a bit more and get quality tire. You won't regret it.
