May I ask which Morels you installed? I'm looking at just swapping out my door speakers as well and installing the Morel Maximo 6. Will do a powered sub / amp in the future. Would love to know your thoughts - cheers!
that is what I installed, the maximo 6

Fantastic - thanks for letting me know. So now that you've had a few different speakers to compare, do the Morel Maximo 6s sound the best of all 3? Front door speakers are your only mod thus far, yeah?

Thanks again!

The Morels are the best. Yes the door speakers are the only ones I have replaced.

The people saying the rears are worthless must not be audiophiles. With just an aftermarket speaker sound reproduction is so much better, add an amp an even better, add a dsp and it all shines. I have Focal Auditors in the doors and Focal ICU 100's in the rear.

 Yeah, I guess I should add rear speakers to my 2.1 setup at home...

You don't need to replace all 6. The rears are worthless. I bought new Infinity Kappa coaxials for the front doors. They were on sale for $88 (>$200 regular). I added sound deadening and made my own spacers. I unplugged the dash tweeters because I hate the high frequencies bouncing off the windshield. It sounds 10x better. I'm adding a 4ch amp and sub next.
Any photos of those installed? What did you have to do for spacers? I actually have an extra set of those same speakers, and was trying to decide between using them or going to components. I had them in a previous vehicle, but they seemed to lack the midbass punch I was expecting.

I made simple spacers out of birch plywood I had laying around. It was winter, so I didn't paint them or anything. 3/4" seemed a bit too thick, and 1/2" was a bit too thin. 5/8" would be ideal. Just trace the OE bracket. Don't stray too much, or the door panel will not fit correctly. It's ugly, but it's not seen behind the panel. I did wrap CCF around the harness prior to buttoning it up.

They are a great sounding speaker. I had some years ago, and they were way too harsh/bright.

I did the "listen and compare" on the crutchfield site with a set of AKG 60NC headphones, and those Morels definitely had a nice sound to them.

Did you go with the components with the separate dash tweeters, or just the coax in doors?

Morels are definitely nice! I had a set of the Tempo Integra Ultras in my previous Ram. They were so pure sounding. I can kick myself for not pulling everything out before trading it in. I was under a time crunch, and the gear was a bit old. I'd have to pay $300+ to buy them now. I used the Maximos for rear fill. I do think the Infinity Kappas sound better than Maximos, but not as good as the Tempo Ultras. I don't have an amp on mine yet. That's coming soon.

What size did you put in the rear? Did have to make any alterations?

I have this Infinity package ready to install. It went up $15, but is still a good deal.

I have installed the Infinity Reference set of REF-6532IX 6.5" 2-Way Car Audio Speakers, and REF-6432CFX 4x6. They are very efficient and sounded good without an Amp. Better with an Amp. I installed a moderate and low cost Puzu PZ-C7 DSP Amp rated at 45 W RMS per channel and it improved the sound more.

The 4 x 6 rear speakers came with an adapter and were an easy bolt up to existing speaker mount.

Good luck with whatever you decide to install.
