I have about 400 miles on the my Mav.
Today I had to go in for blood work at 7:30 am. I decided to take one of the main roads going through the Villages (FLA retirement community) which has three traffic circles that I have to go through to get to the lab. These circles are relatively small being only about 200 feet in diameter and have two lanes.
I came up to the first one, brake late and make the right-left-right to go straight through. I was surprised how well the Mav tracked through the quick direction changes. Great fun! It seemed more sure footed than the GTI I had. There was no drama making the quick direction changes.
Since I was in the left/inside lane I always put on the right signal to exit the circle and remain in the left lane.

On the way back I put the LOBO in SPORT mode. There was definitely a difference. The engine revved higher even though I did not use WOT, after all I'm on city streets.
There was definatelly a difference in cornering. The Mav felt like it had rear wheel steering that helped it around the corner. I only gave it half throttle or less.
This is one fun vehicle to drive!
I'm going to have to see if the track north of here near STARKE has a track day I could go to.

that's definitely what the active yaw control rear differential unit is supposed to do. you must've given it the beans a little bit.

Well yea, a little bit, maybe 1/2 - 3/4 throttle, and that was just SPORT mode! Haven't tried LOBO mode yet.

Was that with the not-so-good factory Goodyear tires?

If so, imagine what it is like with some good rubber on it.

The truck only has about 400 miles on it so yes it's got the original rubber.
I don't drive as much as I used to so these tires may last 3 - 4 years/ 25k miles.

I just have a regular awd model, but these things handle surprisingly well and are fun. I had to go thru a somewhat curvy backroad last weekend and it was really fun. I also have traffic circles and have pushed it and after a few weeks of that noticed the rollover warnings on the sun visor :cwl:

I've had my Lobo for about 3 weeks and it is a fun, fun truck to drive. I find myself taking the freeway into work and there is a transition that is fun and then the off ramp is about 360degrees also fun! Last week on the way home from Riverside taking the surface streets and there was a traffic circle I passed through, which was fun. I eventually ended up I think on the 142, out of nowhere there was this somewhat tight turn which set you up for this wicked set of switch backs. Did not expect that, but the truck handled it really well. What I also like is that I can get in out of Lobo without needing a hoist! The younger folks in my work group drive Type Rs, Miatas, BRZs etc. Cool cars, but I'd able to get in, but probably not out without assistance!

Another LOBO fan! Welcome to the LOBO faction of MTC.
Yea, I used to have a GTI and traded it in for the LOBO. The two vehicles are different but have important similarities. Turbo 2.0L four, 7-speed trans with paddle shifters, sport "tuned" suspension, tuned for AUTOCROSS circuits. The LOBO adds utility and easier to get in and out of it.
I love it!
In my younger days I used to AUTOCROSS an Elva Courier, a '69 Z-28 Camaro, and my wife's VW Sirocco. Great fun.

I’m also a former GTI owner, who’s found his way into a Lobo. It’s Actually quite fun to drive on my rural roads. I’m just getting ready to drain the break in oil at 1000k. Then it’s gonna be time to really “send it!”

Only fun in Lobo mode, sucks that's the only mode were the torque vectoring is engaged.

that's untrue.

granted, yes, in Lobo mode it's turned up way higher to where the truck's nature tendency to understeer is tamed and even a bit of oversteer can be felt.

but, no, the Lobo RDU is doing its thing in normal mode, sport mode, even offroad if you have it enabled.

"Lobo mode is meant only for closed courses because it activates the truck’s torque vectoring and reduces the capability of the stability control system"

that is crap written by the marketing and legal departments. so, you believe the rdu has no affect on driving dynamics when it's not in lobo mode?

drive a tremor, or just a lobo in normal mode, compared to a regular AWD and get back to me.

the difference in the rdu can be felt when driving hard.

huh?

Wait a minute. I thought the lobo climbed over the curb, did torque tricks to cross the sand trap, drove straight up the side of the fountain, forded the top of the fountain, and went down the other side, all without turning the wheel!

😱 :crazy::crackup:

I tried a couple of traffic circles in sport mode. I think the rear diff was active because the truck turned in nicely. It felt like the rear end came around like it had rear wheel steering.

I used to autocross an ELVA COURIER and other cars so I know what it feels like when the rear end tries to come around.
First picture was at a parking lot event in Calif. Second picture was my first autocross after moving back to Buffalo NY, Lancaster Speedway 1972. I took FTD which surprised me because in California I was only a top ten contender. Last picture was at a driver's school, Riverside Raceway, Ca, 1971.
