I finally got my '24 Maverick XL Hybrid, after a 10 month wait. I'm loving the ride, and enjoying getting into all the inexpensive customizations and tweaks available.

Coming from a '17 Nissan Altima, not having the doors automatically open when I touch the handle, and having to fish out my keys each time, with my hands full, is an inconvenience. My biggest gripe is trying to get the narrow key in the keyhole in the dark.

Are there any simple solutions for a lighted keyhole?

I find the key easily fits right in the ignition slot and is very ergonomically designed, in relation to angle. If you cannot see the slot, turn on the dome light.
🤷‍♂️

Yes, American automakers march to a different tune than the Japanese. Back in the 70's , there were even more small luxuries on imports than their domestic competition. My GF's Civic has a nice LED illuminated ring around the ignition switch that seems conspicuous by its absence from the Maverick. However, the Mav design was to a price point...

It's a weird thing considering how many of these same sized buttons FORD has and all of them are different. Some are illuminated in some vehicles and others are not. But this is also a complaint of mine especially with the location of the press to start button in my Lariat. It's borderline muscle memory now, but still annoying.

What I don't understand is with the Hybrid, why don't they offer keyless entry the same or similar way I entered my Prius:

1. With my keyfob in my POCKET I walk up to my Prius.
2. Interior lights came on by itself.
3. I "touch" the drivers door handle and all FOUR doors unlock.
4. I get in, put my foot on the brake pedal and push the start button.

I never had to take the keyfob out of my pocket. As long as it is on my person, the Prius knew it was ok to start the entry sequence.

With my Maverick, I have to "click" the keyfob to get the interior lights and doors to unlock, OR, do the keypad thing. Then I get in the truck, put my foot on the brake pedal, insert the key, turn the key ALL THE WAY (like its an old school vehicle) and then I have completed the start sequence.

I think that's just because of the package you got on the XLT? Lariat EB is push to start and touch to open. I never have to touch my key fob. Would be strange to not have that on the Lariat Hybrid.

But... the tailgate is NOT touch to open the same way, and it should be. If the Escapes for the same price (or less) can have that feature, the Maverick Lariats should too.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. I got my truck 10 days after looking for one due to a cancellation at a dealer. i was prepared to be waiting a year to find one. I did get lucky with this one as it came with a moonroof, leather steering wheel, heated seats and powered driver seat. Good to know the Lariat EB has that function.

Yea it's weird that you can get all those features on the XLT, but not push to start? I don't know for sure and some folks here have the packages memorized, so I'm sure they'll correct us both soon enough ;)

That's my initial thought. All Hybrids have "start" buttons so I was confused about th inserting a key garbage.

My wife’s 2010 base model Prius was $20k and has what only Lariat owners get (door unlock, push to start with key in pocket).

I agree, Ford should’ve just streamlined their entire lineup to keep everything the same. Total BS it needs a physical key in 2024.
