I have to say the backward "F" looks bizarre.

Reminds me of the 2008 Focus refresh. Wasn't really fond of them back then either.

Also, having flashbacks to the "Unpimp the Auto" commercials from a long time ago

Not to toot my own horn, but there's a large thread on this topic with not only my original modification for the side badge, but with many different variations and ideas posted by our members. If you're not happy with the Mabett's or the ones shown on this thread, check it out.

Dad = right on. Building on the experience of you and others, I appended my custom side marker light/blinker build a couple of days ago.

To the OP, my underlying goal was that I wanted an OEM look. The 3D printed lenses from GadCAD 3D [$24 including shipping on Etsy] are the foundation of the OEM look. Using those, there is no need to pry off the side emblem. Drill the 3/4" hole for the LED with a paddle bit, emblem in place.

Carefully apply the 1/4" 3M two sided auto trim tape to the lenses, leaving no gaps, and I believe they are as water proof as anything else. To be fair, I don't direct the hose at it and I don't go through carwashes. [The attached Word doc file must be downloaded- it doesn't display here]

Sent my first Mabett set back for exchange because of leaks. Removed covers and sealed everywhere possible on the replacement set before installation. Fingers crossed 🤞 so far so good.

Absolutely love to see posts such as yours whereby one idea leads to another and another.

Initially, I did not know what was behind the badge nor how thick it was, so removing it was vital to make sure I wasn't going to damage anything, but yes, you are correct, removing the badge is not necessary and can be a bit tricky and risky.

Don't be shy. Would love to see a photo of your install.
